Real stainless 👍
It's that time of year to test the soil for our lawn and this year, I decided to get the real thing instead of using my homemade plug puller. Considering how inexpensive this one is, it was a no brainer. I tested once and with the ground being only 40°F still, it went through the ground like butter. So since it has no indication of depth and for fun, I decided to use my fiber laser to engrave marking at 6". I knew this was real stainless other than testing it with a magnet as I was able to engrave it in color. Only real stainless, brass, and titanium can be annealed with color so this is legit stainless material folks 👍

Works even in my clay yard
Works perfectly in my clay lawn. If I drive it too deep sometimes I have to use a screwdriver to get the plug out so I only go about 4-5" deep and it works.

It works
I bought for soil test kit, it doesn’t come out clean but it served my purpose and did what it was supposed to do. At worst case get a screw driver and get the soil out. I heard of people putting vegetable oil spray on it but did not want to infect my sample. Again it did the job and would by again. Construction is great, very well made.

Not easy to use in heavy clay, but works pretty well
This is way better than using a shovel to sample a yard. It is not easy to insert in heavy clay soil, but push and turn and it will extract a nice core sample. You can see, I made my own ejector by grinding the flats off a 1/2" bolt head. Again, in heavy clay, you need something to eject the plug. I know the 16" one can be purchased with an ejector, but I simply do not need a 16" probe. I am sampling just 4-6" and this fit my needs. If you go too deep and shove stuff up into the top, it can also be hard to get out. I ground a hook or spoon on the other end of the bolt to accomplish this. A probe is the recommended method of sampling by my state's extension service.

Works great despite some blemishes
I really like this soil probe for the money. I’m currently using it to diagnose localized dry spots. I will be using it to take soil probes for a soil test in the fall. Last year I used a shovel for the soil test samples, and this tool will be orders of magnitude easier. The lip of my probe is obviously damaged, and it was delivered this way. See the attached picture. However, despite this damage, it still does its job very well. I have no real complaints other than a brand new tool should not have this kind of damage. But since that doesn’t seem to affect its ability to do the job, I really do not have a legitimate complaint. For the price I paid compared to making my own, I’ll break out my rat tail file and smile about my purchase.

Good tool
Work as advertised happy with it. Only thing I found wrong was kind of hard to get plug out. But still worth the money

Ejector didn’t help
It works ok, but the ejector didn’t work for me. I had to use a screwdriver to get the soil out.
