Product Description Andy Stitzer (Carrel) is 40 and seems to have the perfect life- a proud collection of action figures, toys and comic books, cushy job at an electronics store, smart apartment, close friends and a good attitude. However, the one thing missing in his life, something that he hasnt gotten round to doing, something that most people his age are quite experienced in he has never ever had sex not even by accident. His mates see this as their job to help out their buddy and to lure him away from lifelong chastity, and when he meets Trish a 40 year old mother of three it seems to be the answer to all their plans. The DVD also includs deleted scenes, gag reel, extended and alternate versions of scenes, waxing scene, audition tapes, rehearsals, extended song performances, Judd Apatows daily video diary and " my lunch with a porn star" where actor and producer Seth Rogan enjoys his lunch with various different porn stars. .co.uk Review Cult comic actor Steve Carell--long adored for his supporting work on The Daily Show and in movies like Bruce Almighty and Anchorman--leaps into leading man status with The 40 Year-Old Virgin. There's no point describing the plot; it's about how a 40 year-old virgin named Andy (Carell) finally finds true love and gets laid. Along the way, there are very funny scenes involving being coached by his friends, speed dating, being propositioned by his female manager, and getting his chest waxed. Carell finds both humour and humanity in Andy, and the supporting cast includes some standout comic work from Paul Rudd (Clueless, The Shape of Things) and Jane Lynch (Best in Show, A Mighty Wind), as well as an unusually straight performance from Catherine Keener (Lovely & Amazing, Being John Malkovich). And yet... something about the movie misses the mark. It skirts around the topic of male sexual anxiety, mining it for easy jokes, but never really digs into anything that would make the men in the audience actually squirm--and it's a lot less funny as a result. Nonetheless, there are many great bits, and Carell deserves the chance to shine. --Bret Fetzer

Very entertaining
I owned this film on DVD for a while and it was time to upgrade it to Blu Ray. This was well worth the buy. The picture is a whole lot sharper and Audio much better than the DVD. This film is a very entertaining comedy.

One for the ages
One of the greatest comedies of the past 20 years! Brilliant film from start to finish, and all the crisper in HD.

Laugh out loud stuff
Do not watch this through earphones somewhere like a train unless you want people to look at you. You will laugh out loud and laugh a lot. You have been warned.

Steve Carell, who provided some of the best improv in Anchorman and has risen admirably to the impossible task of filling Ricky Gervais’ shoes in the US version of The Office, should soon be as big a star as Will Ferrell. Director and co-writer Judd Apatow, the brilliant creator of TV series Freaks And Geeks, equally deserves all the success in the world. This first big project for both men is almost the wonderful movie such a pair should produce — yet it falls just short, strangely hamstrung by an overload of uncontrolled creativity.Regardless, if you don’t leave The 40 Year-Old Virgin with a goofy grin playing across your face, it’s time to stock up on Lithuanian fishing documentary DVDs and book yourself a regular slot on Newsnight Review. This has many a moment of gross-out comedy par excellence, providing all manner of yuk for your buck. A bizarre speed-dating sequence with nipples making bids for freedom and a sly chat-up in a bookshop (preceded by the finest dating advice in history) will bring tears to the eyes, while a squirming, clearly improv’d waxing session will invite multiple howls. Carell has a natural gift for making the mundane uproarious and remaining loveable throughout (it’s a measure of his charm that his insistence on keeping cherry firmly intact never seems pathetic) that elevates even the basest comedy moments… although two morning-erection jokes is pushing it.ADVERTISINGinRead invented by TeadsIt’s in trying to be more that Apatow sadly stumbles. At the film’s centre is a very sweet story about a man choosing to wait for a woman he loves rather than give it up for one of the nymphomaniacs shoved his way. It’s like an older, yet less mature, version of American Pie. But where that balanced sweet and unsavoury, this loses its central romance amid the bodily fluids and flatulence. Catherine Keener, always watchable, is left screaming for attention as an insistent pack of testosteroney friends continually interrupt her storyline, reducing both her romantic impact and their own hilarity.

Good acting, quite funny, nothing else too add.
Just got round to watching this 9-year-old film. Cost me £1.20 odd delivered, kept me entertained, some great acting from the likes of Steve Carell, but wasn't too impressed by the story, film could have been such a better film. Maybe focus on the lead characters past, or look at some of the other characters lives. Not a bad film though, recommend this to rent, although I can understand if people do enjoy this film.

This film is a riot!
Love this film - Steve Carrell at his best. Although there's plenty of gross out humour the film is actually quite touching in places. Never get tired of seeing the waxing scene! Enjoy!

Still funny years later
Hilarious. Identified with it as a teen, weirdly enough. Still funny years later.
