Maybe not for every child
My little boy has only played with this 3 Tim’s since Christmas Not sure if it’s my little boy or the toy. My little boy is 6 and reads for a 12 year old so not beyond his ability.

Our kids love it
This is a great 'learning' robot and our kids love it. Very sturdy and able to take a good knock, it keeps them interested when learning to program the toy.The robot however does not have a 'free control' setting which lets you play with it like a remote control car... in stead it has to follow pre-programmed route which the child needs to input via the remote control. This is no problem in itself as it develops the childs thinking skills as to where and how the robot needs to be programmed to go a particular route, but a free driving setting would have been a bonus so they could just whizz it about on the floor trying to avoid obstacles without having to program it beforehand.

Waste of Money
First of all the concept is good. But the execution is poor. There is very limited functionality overall, and one of the main functions (follow a black line) just doesn't not work under any circumstances.Hugely disappointed with this product.

This has a wonky wheel
I bought this item in October as. Christmas present fir my granddaughter so it was only last week that we found that it is faulty. It cannot go in a straight line due to a wonky wheel, and can only go round in circles. It is too late to return the item, so I have a very disappointed grandchild.

Great fun! coding for kids done properly!
The media could not be loaded. Yes he's nearly £60 which seems a little expensive but this is a well polished bit of kit! I was quite excited about this coding robot when I was asked to review it and then my heart sank when I couldn't get the controller to talk to the robot, it turns out that I had put some not so zippy batteries in the controller and after that was remedied we have been having great fun with him since. You use the controller to input commands which are then sent to Botley by hitting the blue button. Once he receives the string of code he executes it. You can set loops of code and use his object detection to avoid objects as well as input "Easter eggs" of code to get him to act like a police car or a dinosaur (as in video)Our little boy is 3 years old so we haven't been doing anything too taxing yet, but I am really looking forward to having a good play with some mazes when he gets a little older and starts to understand more about stings of commands.Botley is really well made and looks like a solid toy which will take a beating well and survive... a polished bit of kit in my opinion, and I am happy to recommend even with the £60 price tag!

Misleading video on Amazon product page
The video on the Amazon page for this item (LER2941) shows the robot following black lines on cards laid on the floor. No such cards were provided. This is misleading. The cards should not be shown on the video if they are not part of the product.
