Can I use it on a crumbling floor with a bitumen based coating on it or do I need to clean it up completely first?

MarkI've had a similar problem with bitumen based coatings so I can give you some advice. I hope you are in the same state that I was in that the Bitumen is approx. 1/2 inch deep and has been laid onto a rough concrete base. The concrete is not necessarily top quality and you are experiencing the breakup of the bitumen due to heave or compression type problems. In my case I used a bolster to chop back the bitumen to sound areas. Cleaned out the broken sections and chippings and then used the levelling compound to fill the resultant hole. It's been down now for over twelve months and is still sound.

Can this be used on timber floorboards

Iv'e never done this but my immediate thought is no. The self levelling element is usually done on a solid i.e concrete floor or some other solid substrait. Timber by is very construct is flexible and as you may want a very thin level i.e 1.5 to 2mm of compound to level your floor it would easily crack as the timber floor flexed. So the only way to level this floor would be by packing. However I do know that you can purchase a tile cement that is suitable for timber floors. This tile cement has a degree of flexibility to account for both movement of the timber and dips and hollows that can occur with old floorboards. If you are intending to lay tiles then this may be what you require. However without further information on the amount of levelling you require or what you intend to cover the floor with afterwards I cannot provide you with any further alternatives.RegardsBob Hackett

Does this product literally find its own level, or do you need to level it with a plastering float or something?

Up to a point yes it does, but it depends on what you are trying to fill. if you have a deep and defined hole then yes it will literally self level but you must be exact in your pouring as over filling can result in excess flowing out. If however you are filling a depression in the floor some degree of float work to assist the self leveller to find where you wish to fill is required. However once you have the fluid approximately where you need it then it can be left to complete the task. Note the very edges of the fill may still need to be smoothed out a little as the self level element tends to work to approx 1-1.5mm and then bead at the edge so smoothing at thyis point would be required.

It sets in 90 mins I have to do 18 sq m in one go does that mean I need to mix, pour level the whole area in 90 mins, before it sets in parts.

these times I think are approximate once you have mixed (don't overdo the water) you can always add ,if you have a piece of baton the same width/ length as the area you can pour and then adjust the baton to were the mixture spreads to,you can mix another batch up trowel the first mix to level ,take the baton away pour the next lot and so on,the time you've troweled the first lot the edge should be firm so you can take away your baton,then pour the next and so on,don't mix for the hole area else you will be in a bit of a state.
