Great for beginners and experienced climbers. Has top safety features and easy to use
I bought this as my girlfriend had recently gotten into climbing, and I wanted her to feel safe and confident belaying me as I’m 90+ kg and she’s rather petite. Anyone that has used a GriGri in the past will know that it’s self locking mechanism never fails. And gives the climber and the belayer added confidence when climbing. The GriGri + does a little more than that. It has a panic switch when the belayer is letting the climber down, if they go too far on the lever it’ll self lock again and you have to put it back to the start position to start descending again. This stops an inexperienced belayer from putting the lever into maximum decent and slamming you into the ground if they freeze with it fully open. Another feature the GriGri+ has is you can change its modes between top rope, and lead climb. In top rope the device feels more grippy, and tight. In Lead climb it loosens up a bit and you are able to give slack more freely without the device locking. All in all a great addition to anyone’s climbing equipment bag. Worth the somewhat steep price. Oh and my girlfriend loved the pink!

Perfect
Best belay device IMO my girlfriend likes the panic handle and mode switching safety features!

Wonderful piece of kit
Wonderful piece of kit, allows me to trust my 17 year old to belay me safe in the knowledge that if he has a lapse of concentration I would not hit the dirt! I have not used the older versions but the brake lock if you over-pull it I can see being a lifesaver and the two modes for top rope and lead climbing work well.

Excellent device!
A really well thought out device which makes climbing feel more secure when belaying. The assisted breaking gives peace of mind to both the belayer and the climber that there’s no doubt of it catching you. The lower mechanism is smooth and the safety panic function stops accidental drops. Very good value for money on here and worth every penny.

Easy to use
I have just started to take my son climbing with one of his friends. This device allows them to belay each other safely as it auto locks if they pull the lever to much. Would definitely recommend if you are new to climbing.

Great device with a definite learning curve
Not the easiest belay device to use so there's a learning curve for sure. Hard to pay out when lead belaying. Also if you climb trad on twin ropes this won't work. Same applies to abseiling on two ropes. You'll need to carry a standard two rope device and a prussac Very safe though and glad of the purchase.

The standard just got a little bit better.
I've used six different assisted breaking devices for belaying for sport climbing (mostly top rope) and I'd place it in joint first with the Black Diamond ATC Pilot. As with all ABDs that cam lock the rope, it does take a while to get used to the device, especially when lead climbing and giving slack (so as to not accidentally engage the cam). Taking in slack is simple, and not all that different to a normal tuber belay device. Lowering is accomplished by using the side lever, with the more you open it the faster the rope will go through. If you panic and pull the lever too far the GriGri+'s anti-panic feature kicks in and re-engages the cam lock, at which point you have to fully close the lever before you can start to lower again. The regular GriGri does not have this anti-panic feature. An ABD like the GriGri+ is no substitute for good belaying technique, but having a backup is never a bad idea.

Gr8
I use it for top rope soloing and general belaying. For top rope soloing it acts like a shunt, belay and an ascender. You just have to learn to use it. It catches every time, but knots are recommenced. Light, durable, and literally three devices in one.
