Creativity, hard work, and lots of fun โthatโs what it takes to cook like a master. Beloved television competition show MasterChef Junior fosters all of this within each of its pint-size home cooks, and what they whip up is truly impressive. This book aims to give any aspiring young chef the tools he or she needs to hone essential cooking skills, with 100 recipes inspired by dishes that the contestants served in the first five seasons, as well as timeless techniques, tips, and advice. With this book, anyone can become an excellent cook. Review: A fantastic compromise between dumbed down kids books and real cooking instruction. - My eleven year old daughter loves to cook and enjoys watching foodTV. She is pretty skilled and unfortunately most of the kids cookbooks are really dumbed down (using boxed cake mixes and jars of jam) so they don't really "cook." On the same note a lot of mainstream cookbooks are obviously adult geared. This book is a fantastic compromise of taking real recipes and making them easy for a kid to read and follow. She made these fantastic pork chops the other day with a mustard sauce that I couldn't get enough of. There are some great veggie dishes as well, and as we have learned in our house - you have much better chance of your kid eating veggies if they are part of the creation process. Great book for a budding chef :) Review: Great Fun! My 12 year old son loves it! - My son who is 12, was so excited to use this so we started out with a side and not a main course as he is still learning. We did the Brussel Sprouts and Fennel sir fry and it turned out amazing!!! I will say that most of the ingredients are on the more expensive side so Iโm letting him do one recipe every few weeks. It was fun to be in the kitchen with him as it challaged me to learn a few things as well. The instructions are not as detailed as one would expect a childโs cook book to be, but overall itโs beautiful and my kids are excited to taste what they saw on the show. So itโs pretty neat. I would reccomed this book for sure. You just have to be in the kitchen with the kids while they cook when they need help. A new family activity.

Not a "children's" cookbook exactly
While the recipes are created and prepared by junior chefs, it is not for the novis chef. My 12 year old has loved all the Gordon Ramsey shows since he was little including Masterchef Jr. I was excited to get him this as part of a gift and he enjoyed looking through the recipes. However, I will warn that most of the recipes are more complicated or require a lot of equipment (pressure cooker for example) that not everyone has in their kitchen. We did make the chicken lolly pops twice and he enjoyed those. Since he was cooking for 1, we had plenty of left over sauce which cut down on prep time the second time. We will try some other recipes but likely not going to use this book as often because we don't own all the equipment required to make the dishes.
