You do not need to be online. However you need the internet to download other tables. Also, you need a connection for posting local scores.

Can anyone reccomend a tabe for this to sit on?

I put mine on an electric variable height desk so I can stand while playing. It should be fine on any table, stand or use an adjustable height chair or barstool. It is not heavy but very stable.
