MAGIX Rescue your Videotapes - Version 9 Digitizing Video Cassettes Made Easy (PC)

I took a chance with this as I needed to transfer all the footage of my children from analogue Hi8 tapes to digital format, as the plastic on the camcorder is degrading and I need to act before it stops working. I admit I picked it as it was cheaper than the Dazzle. You get video and audio leads, and other leads and connectors, a Magix adapter and the software on a disc. It was easy to set up - follow the instructions - the Magix bit is a fancy converter with the right connectors to plug from the camcorder cables through the magix adaptor to the computer. The basic software is ok to capture the camcorder output. It does allow some editing, but in reality I want to capture everything so I am less interested in this. You do get the option of upgrading to the fancier software online. I did a test and transferred a 40 second clip. I chose the recommended HD quality (there are 4 to choose from) and it took 25mins to complete, the file was 55MB. I did a 10 min clip and it took 2hrs and has a file size of 1.4GB. I can use the software easily and change the output for different platforms (burn to DVD for the grandparents/clip on fb to embarrass the kids etc) I am happy with this and will transfer over all of the (8x90min tapes) as part of my lockdown project. I have also invested in a 4TB drive to complete this project. I am happy with this product and would recommend it.

Although the editing features were limited, the product did what it set out to do, to help transfer some much missed old footage from VHS tape to MP4 Files. (You will also need a compatible VHS Player, some are not)

Just rubbish in a box. What is it with these so called magical devices that say they will rescue all your old VHS memories. This is the third device I have tried from different manufacturers and everyone is exactly the same as the previous . . . after you install the software the device will not pick up any signal from any external device whether it be Video Camera or VHS player. I have tried various configurations of Scart leads, Phono leads, various EXT 1 - EXT 2 - AUX inputs front and rear of my import device yet absolutely nothing, plus it has now done something to my computer as my Start menu will now not work on Windows 10.

Easy to set up and get converting. Recording & basic editing (Snip & titling) also very easy. Only downside is its memory hungry which you should have expected at around 2GB per hour, so get plenty of connected storage.

Easy to install and no problem using it , ok for what you pay for , didn’t really make my video tapes that great for colour, don’t except to much from this , I was just glad to load the tapes into something.

Found the software very easy to use when transferring vhs footage from a video player, also editing very good and simple use all in all very satisfied

Just finished copying over hours of family movies onto a laptop without error. Superb, does what it says on the box. Don't be tempted by other more complex software - makes the job unnecessarily hard. Only one thing to point out - the device is a USB 2.0 (black port) not a USB 3.0 (blue port) - it works much better plugged into a USB 2.0 port - avoid plugging it into a blue USB 3.0 port - the transfer will likely fail.

Had to fiddle about with Magix VHS recue on set up but once set up does the job! Very pleased It does not have fast dubbing so does take quite a while to digitalise from VHS but none the less once done quality is great! no loss Update: From above comments - Only used 2/3 times after some time not used Magix today 11/08/2018 plugged in video and Magix does not work? tried everything re downloaded Magix onto my computer, checked connections etc USB grabber maybe faulty and Magix help line but to date still not working today 31/10/18 I have thrown this product away, shame it stopped working!!!
