XTRONS 9" Android 14 DAB+ Car Stereo Upgrade for VW Golf T5/MK6/Caddy/Skoda

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical of the various aftermarket Android head units before purchasing one. But it’s hard to ignore the price as they offer incredible value for money for the features they have. I chose this specific one as DAB+ was built in without the need to purchase a separate dongle. First impressions were really good. Build quality is excellent and it comes with everything needed in the box. The fitting instructions were slightly lacking, however I’m fairly technical and there are a few half decent video guides on youtube. It took me just over an hour to fit it myself and that included removing loads of interior trim/the glove box to hide cables and antennas etc. The only tools needed are a torx screwdriver and some plastic pry/trim tools. This one is exactly the same shape as my old Skoda head unit and fits in the existing surround perfectly and looks fairly OEM. The cables (and there are a lot of them!) fit behind the unit easily as it’s so much shallower than the original Skoda unit. Don’t’ be overwhelmed by all the wires, each cable only fits in one place, so it’s pretty much impossible to get it wrong. My only minor criticism of the unit is the screen is a bit of a finger print magnet! The DAB+ signal is very good (using the supplied aerial) and the FM radio works fine using my cars existing antenna. I’m very impressed with the wireless Android Auto and it connects quickly to my phone each time. The unit runs smoothly and is not sluggish running Android or any of the supplied apps. As I mentioned above, the slightly glossy finish if the screen gets fingerprints on it very easily, but it is very sharp, clear and has good brightness and very good viewing angles. Tech support is excellent, they are quick to reply and resolve and issues you may have. Always a very good sign with any tech company. I had a few issues with CAN Bus integration that they sorted out quickly. If you are on the fence about these head units like I was, I advise you to go for it. They are very good indeed.

Don't usually write reviews but I couldn't not for this stereo. It's a brilliant stereo and the sound quality it really good. I'd been back and forth which to get and after reading the reviews on this one I couldn't not. I got the one with the built in dab and it picks up a lot of stations. Was quite easy to fit after watching a little video on YouTube. Everything works as it should and you can either pair your phone up to the stereo or hot-spot it from your phone which I've done. So glad I went with this one i definitely made the right choice

Radio reception terrible, dab has no sound, parking sensors when working only show front and rear, not my side sensors, but I was assuredthey would before purchasing. Customer support takes over 24hrs, no real fitting or instructions. Giving then 48hrs to fix it, or I'm sending it back.

I had one and I returned it. On the plus it really does sound fantastic and made a tremendous difference to my Skoda Yeti. The screen is very clear and the navigation map is really good. But this was out wayed by the negatives. The DAB+ radio is not the primary radio shown on the 1st screen when turned on. You have to scroll through to find that and you can't swap it's screen location to take the place of the AM/FM radio! Also the DAB stations are on a scrolled list which does not give the option of setting any stared or favorites. That's a lot of stations to scroll through to change your listening ans you're not looking at the road while your doing it! Yes it has a SD card slot so if like me you have over 7 thousand FLAC music tracks sorted by Album, group etc. then why would you use this unit that lists them as a single list of 7 thousand tracks! Why does it not use a music file app like HiBy. I tried to load it without any luck. So it went back until they fix these two issues.

After buying a VW Scirocco amidst a mid life crisis amongst other things, I wanted to improve the stereo system and speakers in my new car, I used to be into car audio a while ago but with age came a little more practicality, and whilst I could have installed a Pioneer or Kenwood etc with the associated fitting kits and canbus adaptor i opted for this Xtrons unit because of ease of fitment and sufficient processing power to be usable. First thing, there's lots of small wiring looms to connect to it but well labelled and to an extent different ones depending on application, slightly difficult to keep tidy but I used cable ties and also didn't connect extras I didn't want. The fitment in the dash is very neat and smart and adds a very modern look. The actual unit is responsive and has a vibrant display, and the android auto connects quickly wirelessly once initial setup is done. The manual and certain elements of the instructions could be clearer it's a little broad brush unfortunately however it's not too bad. As someone who is keen on car audio the sound is actually quite good with a very big caveat which isn't explained in the manual, the DSP app (sound settings) needs a lot of tinkering to optimise it, and certain parts of it aren't even explained in the manual at all,but seems to be that the EQ increments are quite aggressively staggered and also tied into overall total volume of the unit, and there's individual gain/boost parameters which aren't mentioned for each EQ band this makes a lot of difference as does the hpf setting for gain, I was actually going to dig out a pioneer 210 media player I already had for a while but with tweaking these settings it's actually sounding good now. Another word of advice, I fitted a pioneer active subwoofer off the RCA sub out, you will need a splitter cable as it has only one connector so a male to two female y cable was required, I also opted for a line signal booster as the voltage isn't very high but I can report my subwoofer sounds good from the RCA now,. Final note the unit is fluid all the climate displays heated seats etc come up on the screen, and works fully with the steering wheel controls, it sounds good and can sound even better with patience which I've had this unit for a few months so can give a fair review now but the manual could be better.

Fits really well, Fairly simple to connect Looks confusing but some parts don't need to be fitted. Screen is great, no lags, smooth touchscreen, phone connectivity's v good. Id definitely fit one on my next car but pay extra for a better spec, now I know the unit is well engineered and assembled.

For a 2009 vw eos, pretty easy to fit just take time with wires. Wish I bought years ago as old unit died, really brings car up to date.sound quality easily matches original if not better. Parking sensors integrated well which was important as needed to put the roof up and down.
