LaCie 5TB Mobile Drive | USB-C (STLP5000400)

This is fabulous! A mighty mini storage device, that really does work straight from the box. I just want to use it to save certain documents that are important and it managed to store all my music files quite quickly considering how many gigabytes of music I have. Took a few hours but worth it! This is sleek, lightweight, and does exactly what it says. I love it. I would recommend this data storage device.

Arrived quickly, easy to set up as a Time Machine for my Mac and working well (so far)

Easy plug and play this is my second one, ( the other is still working just needed more storage) and even have one for work which survives being thrown into the laptop bag moving to various work sites.

Works beautifully on MacOS 15.5 but reformatted anyway to a different file system. This drive actually seems to contain an HDD rather than SDD, its presentation and text doesn’t really make that clear but still a good unit. Design is beautiful, function, speed and heat are all acceptable and price is good for a nicely designed drive. Why did you choose this product over others?: LaCie brand and design

I’ve been using LaCie drives for years and this 1TB version is a really solid option. It’s slim, lightweight, and has a nice premium feel, plus it comes plastic-free with a USB-C cable included. I use it for backing up wedding work while editing, and I find the 1TB size much easier to organise and manage compared to larger drives. Transfer speeds are good for moving large batches of photos and video, and it’s been reliable so far. It’s also a great choice for general use like backing up family photos or important files. The option for automatic backups, along with the included warranty and data recovery services, adds extra peace of mind.

The drive is perfect for backups and with the 5Tb capacity there is plenty of room for Time Machine backups and extra data storage. I personally partitioned 2Tb for Time Machine and 3Tb for data storage which is perfect for my use. This is not an SSD so don't expect lightning performance but for normal backups and data storage usage that is in a small package its fine. Plus it look nice.

I have 7 or 8 other portable drives, all of which work well, WD, Seagate, Toshiba, Samsung and others. This one does not connect or stay connected, tried on several computers, Windows desktop and laptop, all Windows 11 and up to date. I have managed to get data onto it but reading or accessing the data on any computer is a trial which exhausts my patience. It is quite expensive so I am reluctant to give up on it but after several months, I am getting to the point of just binning it.

I have bought several LaCie hard drives through the years and find them to be very reliable. This most recent 5TB LaCie purchase is to back up my Music and Photo libraries as the two oldest LaCies did not have sufficient storage for my ever expanding Libraries! I do not have much technological knowledge but was able to set it up from following the instructions presented in a small booklet included with the HD and check the information once the 'backups' had been completed.

So far so good. It's a normal spinning hard drive. It works. It looks nice and is a good alternative to overpriced SSDs (Thanks to the current AI Data Centers craze!).
