good USB to Serial cable
Have been using this Serial to USB device for a good few years now and has served me well . I think i recall once or twice having issues with the drivers over the 4 or 5 years but it was easily solved by going to the TRENDnet website and updating the drivers. no complaints and a solid product.

Works like a charm!
I purchased this cable to be used as an adapter to connect to my Cisco router I use for lab work via a RJ45-to-DB9 cable since there was no port on my Dell laptop to connect to.So far so good, cable seem's to be of good quality and works like a charm!

Works better and simpler than expected.
Worked spledidly so far. After plugging in it pretends to be an actual COM port in the system's driver list, so applicaitons using COM ports can simply use it as if it was an actual piece of the computer's interior hardware.

and you're good to go
Purchased as need to configure Cisco Network devices.Confirmed working on Windows 7 - 64 bit and Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 64-bit.For windows simply install the driver from the supplied Driver CD, check which COM number is allocated. For Ubuntu you may need to do a bit of googling to find out how to setup the usb to serial. Once you find the right guides, you will see it only takes 5 mins to setup, and you're good to go. Note, I needed to use minicom software to connect to devices, you just have to supply the correct settings i.e. ttyUSB0... for it to work. The important thing is this this cable contains a chip made by Prolific Technology, which Ubuntu does officially support.I have also purchased much much cheaper cables as spares from eb*y, but they only seam to work in Windows, and the quality of the cable is not as good. My advice is buy a better quality cable, it may seam more expensive, but the benefit is they are likely to be compatible with most OS's. Highly recommended.

Ahh windows 8, how clever of you to make me buy now things
Pesky chipset is almost exactly the same as the one I've had for years.Unfortunately all of those I bought previously have been rendered worse than useless (blue screens) by windows updates, thanks guys. Now I'm on windows 8, this is the only choice. Hurumph, not impressed with being forced to part with more money to get the same thing...clever though. One really annoying thing - the screwlocks don't come off, so I can't use it in a number of places I would have liked...
