Great device
Excellent device for the money. I am steadily digitising a very large collection of ancient cassettes dating back to the 70s. Some of them irreplaceable, so delighted to have found this. Generally very easy to use and, in conjunction with Audacity software, produces very acceptable results. Two drawbacks, however. 1/ It can be very temperamental to set up, with Audacity giving an error message when recording starts. This generally requires restarting Audacity and reinserting usb lead. Can get very irritating! 2/ It is very vulnerable to wi fi interference which can produce a horrible buzzing on your recording (very annoying on a C90 cassette which has to be redone)I have found that fiddling with, or even replacing the supplied USB cable helps.Despite these grumbles, I’m very pleased to have my cassettes now available on m computer and phone. Definitely thumbs up!

OK product
Not easy to follow instructions, information and instruction are much better presented in bullet form headings. I had to download software, as provided software for conversion to MP3 did not work, it took far to long to sort this out, not very good helpful in getting started. When I got it up and running the quality of the recording was very good. However having to separate each track on a cassette is very time consuming, I was hoping for a straight forward system that would automatically separate the individual tracks. This system requires time and patience to convert tapes to MP3, so if you have time on your hands this is for you, or you may decide to just download the tracks you want from ITunes.

GOOD
Does what it's supposed to.Tape player comes with cable that attaches to USB on Mac.You don't need batteries as it's powered by the mac when connected.Comes with a CD with audacity software on it which is used to capture the recording and can be used to edit the recording too. (On the cd are also older programmes to use if you have an older mac)Included is instructions on how to set up everything and which settings to use on computer. This really worked for me and i'm happy with the results!I had already found out that you can download audacity for free from the internet and there are also numerous youtube videos etc giving tutorials on how to use it. In fact some of these tutorials are great if you want to know how to save project, split into tracks or import to iTunes etc (both of which i have done). So although i could have got audacity for free and most instructions from the internet, this product was just what i needed as it gave me step by step basic instructions on how to set it up,which settings to use and the tape player and USB connector. I couldn't fine this very basic info elsewhere and it all works.Very happy!

Disappointed! Not as user friendly as I'd hoped.
I've watched the accompanying tutorial several times and the first thing is that the input settings it recommends, renders my converted files virtually inaudible. So I've had to ignore and re-record a few times to get anywhere near a decent level. But with that the tape hiss goes up. Secondly, the Audacity software is really NOT user friendly or easy to understand. In the process of learning I do make mistakes but seem to be unable to undo them - to the point that I have to abort and start again as a new project!!! Disappointed!

Fantastic sound output, lots of effects and sound doctoring tools. Makes tracks sound like they were recorded digitally. Love it
Fantastic product! I used to be in a band in the late 90's and have a large collection of old cassettes recorded in dingy reversal rooms or gig venues. The sound was always hit and miss as the recording equip used was pretty basic so I was sceptical as to what I could achieve with this, especially as I used a similar product a few years ago on my PC but I am blown away by how easy it was to use and the sound quality produced!I haven't even scratched the surface of the available effects yet but what I have tried have been great. Noise reduction is amazing and bass boost means I can actually hear the bassist. You could probably spend all day playing with effects and sound on a single track and wouldn't believe the original was made with a tape recorder when listening to the end result. The instructions were clear and concise and easy to follow

Excellent
Excellent, especially for the very reasonable price. Comes with Audacity software (which is free to download on the internet), which is very comprehensive audio recording & editing software. With its complexity comes the need to pay attention to the settings, especially volume, in order to get a good mp3 recording from the tape, but this product comes with an excellent quick start sheet and a very good video for those who have not used Audacity before. Even comes with ear-bud phones, so you can listen to the tape directly.NB For some reason, I've never got Audacity play-through to work, so can't monitor the input as it is recording; but you have to test recording first in order to set the volumes on the tape player and on Audacity correctly, so that isn't much of a problem. BUT I was tempted to leave the headphones plugged in while recording, so I could hear it: don't do this! It reduces the volume on one of the stereo inputs significantly.

This is way better than I expected for the price
I dreaded getting this having had horrible experience trying to find something to convert 35mm slides to digital. I needn't have worried. The instruction video provides meticulous directions and explanation to set up the hardware and use the software. The software itself is not frightfully intuitive to use but the instructions see you through and the results are great. No shortcuts in terms of speed as everything has to happen in real time but it definitely does what it says on the tin and in the electronic world these days that is sadly not a common finding!

Better ones available
I have a Pioneer Hi Fi separate double cassette deck so was able to make a comparison with tape playback. This unit has poor quality on the upper end so the sound ends up watery.Have subsequently bought a better unit which is fine. Also Audacity is fairly complex to use.
