Perfect purchase.
Quite possibly the best thing I’ve ever purchased in terms of exceeding expectation. Sturdy, well-designed, functional… I wish I’d bought this before wasting money on DIY efforts and nets. Babies are safe and secure, it’s easy to gaze lovingly at them, there are no fears about parameters… there is nothing not to love about this.

Fab little nursery tank (with a few modifications!)
Attached a tiny water pump running on 3 volts to the end of the air-bubbler tube, so pumping water directly from the tank into it. This is virtually silent, as opposed to air pumps which can be quite noisy. Has been working well for a few months as our baby Platys get big enough to put back in the main tank. Ironically, since I set this up, our tank inhabitants have developed a taste for Platy fry, so I hardly ever see them before theyre eaten! Incidentally, Im not sure Id want to put a pregnant adult the size of a Platy in this for too long - its quite small if you include the separator plastics.

Fab idea but sadly a few flaws
I do love my new hang on filter so I don't regret buying it at all, however I think a few personal adjustments need to be made depending on what your using it for. I added some foam onto the water intake because I have it attached to a shrimp fry tank and I don't want any babies sucked in, and unfortunately due to my fry being tiny the grate on the water outlet was too large so fry could easily pass through into the tank. I added some foam to the outlet but unfortunately that wasn't enough and I ended up finding fry in the main tank, thankfully for me it was attached to their grow out tank so apart from shrimp there was no other fish in there to eat them but obviously that's not going to be the case for everyone. I'm going to try putting the grate inside a bit of stocking material for my next batch to see if this rectifies the problem. It is generally quite noisy so I wouldn't advise having it in a bedroom but honestly the noise doesn't bother me. It's definitely worth the money and the modifications are minute if your using it as a fry tank so I would definitely recommend

Clean, quiet, and stress-free—ideal for fry, isolation, or breeding without crowding your main tank.
Mounted this on a 120L community tank to isolate fry and a stressed guppy—worked spot-on. It hangs externally, so it doesn’t take up space inside the tank. Water circulates from the main tank using an air pump (not included), keeping temperature and chemistry consistent. No heater needed, no separate filtration—just plug in and go. Setup took about 10 minutes. Suction cups and brackets hold firm, even when full. Flow’s gentle—no risk of fry getting tossed around. I’ve used it for guppy fry, shrimp, and even a short quarantine stint. Easy to observe, feed, and clean. 📦 Features & Specs Capacity: 1.1 litres Mounting: Hang-on design with secure brackets Flow System: Air-lift driven—uses tank water for circulation Compartments: Optional dividers for multiple fry or isolation zones Material: Clear acrylic—easy viewing, solid build Extras: Includes tubing and flow adjuster (air pump not included) 🧪 Performance Water Quality: Stays stable—no separate heater or filter needed Noise Level: Near silent—just a soft bubbling from the air pump Cleaning: Easy to rinse and wipe down—no awkward corners Visibility: Clear sides make it easy to monitor fry or isolated fish 👍 Pros ✅ External mount—saves tank space ✅ Gentle flow—safe for fry and shrimp ✅ Stable conditions—uses tank water ✅ Easy setup—no tools needed ✅ Optional dividers—customise layout 👎 Cons ❌ Air pump not included—must buy separately ❌ Limited size—best for small fish or fry ❌ Needs level tank edge—check fit before mounting ❌ No lid—watch for jumpers or evaporation 🧭 Personal Verdict If you’re breeding, isolating, or just want a clean way to manage fry without stressing your main tank, this box is a tidy bit of kit. I’ve used it for guppies and shrimp—no drama, no losses. It’s earned its spot in the gear stash.

OK - needs modifying to work well
It is OK . . . I like that it comes with cleverly designed spacers to change the angle at which it hangs, so you can hang it vertically no matter the thickness of your tank's trim. I also like that it seems pretty tough and the plastic is clear. Sadly the air lift was both very noisy and inefficient. I solved this by attaching a micro pump to the inlet via some tubing, but this was way too strong as it is only 2 litres and even a tiny pump will do 50-100 litres per hour. Easily fixed with a couple of drilled holes in the tubing to deliberately make the flow less efficient. This now works well and is extremely quiet. Second problem is that the "grill" that prevents fry from being flushed over the "water fall" return has slots that are far too wide for smaller fry. The obvious solution is a bit of filter foam, BUT you do have to be very careful: Use too coarse a foam and your fry will get stuck in it, but use too fine or too thick a piece of foam and you slow the outlet too much and then its over spilling along the length of the box. If you have hungry fish in your main tank this could be disastrous! It took a lot of experimenting (some pretty fraught moments!) too get a piece of foam just the right PPI and thickness to make it fry safe. I will be experimenting with fine netting material in future as I think this will be less obstructive to water flow but ensure fry are safe at the same time. By the way, with a pump attached the throughput will clear the tank of baby brine shrimp too quickly so I put it on a timer to just run for 30 minutes every few hours, giving the fry ample time to eat. I'm aware I've probably over complicated what was meant to be simple, but the noise from the air lift was way too loud to live with.

Fry tanks
Excellent, worked well but you need a separate air pump to work, as it circulates water into the small tank sitting outside of the main tank and then back into the main tank.

Does the job
I used this to make a hob refugium, covered with black tape added a very small pump and cheeto it works very happy.

One of the best Holding and breeding box
I have tried different types of breeding boxes and I consider Fluval holding and breeding box the best among them. It has everything that you need for an aquarium hobbyist. The size is very convenient comparing to others while I wish if Fluval can make a bigger size also. This is a complete set and you won't regret buying it. I highly recommend it.

Great breeder box!
This breeding and holding box has been a fantastic addition to my aquarium setup! I really like having the option to create up to three separate compartments, which makes it incredibly versatile for isolating fish, protecting fry, or keeping smaller fish safely separated. The large size provides plenty of room without taking up excessive space in the tank, and the multi-chamber design makes managing multiple fish much easier. It feels sturdy, well-designed, and practical for breeding and quarantine needs. Definitely a great addition for any fish keeper who breeds or needs a reliable way to separate fish. Highly recommend! 🐠🐟❤️
