3 Inch Diamond Hole Saw with Pilot Bit, 3" Diamond Tipped Tile Hole Saw with Guiding Drill Bit in The Center for Porcelain Tile, Ceramics, Marble and Granite

The core drill cut a clean hole in my granite countertop without trouble. The pilot drill that comes with the core drill is high speed steel and is not intended for hard surfaces like granite. This should be listed in the description but since I did not need it I felt 5 stars was still appropriate. The way this drill is used is to start at an angle and slowly straighten the drill up. This creates a nice channel (kerf) for the drill to follow and I did not have any wandering. Keep the drill wet which provides cooling and tends to float the cut material out of the cut. I just used a wet sponge and periodically dripped water into the cut. Pull the drill out and spin in water to remove grit and cool the bit. I only needed one hole so I don't know about longevity, but it certainly worked for me. I would buy this again. Just don't rely on the center pilot bit unless you are drilling something relatively soft.

This was a one time repair. If the saw I chose at Amazon cuts one hole properly, I’m happy! “I’m happy”. This 1.5” saw did great! Be sure to read included instructions about pilot drill use and saw cooling. It states to remove the pilot drill after the saw has started the cut. This could be a challenge to keep saw from hopping out of hole location and damaging area next to the started circle. Suggestion, clamping thin wood with same hole cut in it over the proposed hole location may keep saw where it belongs while drilling. My story if interested. I had mildew at bottom of wall under the diverter in the shower. Bleached it and came back so time to investigate before we got sick from mildew. I lucked out and chose exact (6x8) tile to remove for the inspection and repair. There was a slow constant drip drip at the diverters plumbing connection at hot water side. Made that plumbing repair and then dropped bag of Damp-Rid on a rope into the wall until it hit bottom. Got considerable water in the bag over 2 week period. New bag, same, no more water and no more mildew appeared, time to close it up. I made a cardboard template where to cut hole in a tile saved from home construction, then marked the tile on tile back-soft side. See pics. The cut through the hard glaze was quick, I doubt saw got too hot so cooling the saw probably wasn’t necessary in my case but made cut in container of water anyway. Drilled from the soft back side. Some minor chipping occurred, perhaps placing tape over the glazed side would help.

Amazing product. Worked very well and very fast. Cut through concrete backboard and ceramic tile like butter.

Worked for the most part. The centering bit is a good concept but unless it cuts at the same rate or faster than the hole saw, you're fighting to drill the hole. And if you push harder, there's a chance you'll chip the tile. After my first hole, I chose to drill a 1/4 hole first with a quality bit. Then I used the hole saw with guide bit to drill half way thru on one side and flipped the large tile over and finished drilling from the other side. The centering bit was no longer required to cut but just guide. Holes were cut into large format porcelain tiles.

The tool drilled a perfect 5.5 inch through porcelain tile. One person poured water from hose while I slowly pushed down on drill. Did not use pilot bit. Used template out of kerdi board to keep hole saw centered.

Worked great. Used it to cut a hole in new granite sink for soap dispenser. Cut through quickly like it was nothing. It was so fast I didn't even need to spray with water. Used the centering bit until the saw made contact with the sink and then removed it to cut through. Nice clean quick cut.

I have a couple flower pots that have a modern design but my plants need drainage. And these pots dont have holes. One pot had like a porcelain layer but mostly made of clay, the other all clay or material similar. I used my cordless drill, placed masking tape over the area to be drilled, used a spray bottle filled with water, and used low to medium pressure going at about medium speed. I took my time, kept drilling and spraying water over the area. I did keep the pilot hole installed, too. It took about a minute, but it perfectly cut the hole without issue. No cracks to the pot!

I have retiled two showers in my house. I purchased this and it worked great for the test (1) and the 'real' (2) cut for shower #1. Fast forward a year and some, i brought it back out. I was almost done cutting the 'rea'l (3) hole for my second shower re-do, and I lost control of the drill, so it skittered across the face of the tile making a small scratch. That was on me. But it completely failed to cut the final (4) time. So, it is only good for 3 cuts. Choose them carefully, because they're kinda pricey. To finish the final cut, I'm purchasing a decently reviewed $10 tile hole saw. Fingers crossed!
