VC2012L/2 240V 20 Litre L Class Dust Extractor

This machine is first class, a total game changer. Pleased I didn’t waste money on a mirka or festool as this Makita matches them (I’m a tradesmen that’s used all of them). All my kit is Makita, never let me down. Sensible size, comes with every “bit” you’d ever need.

Great hoover at a fair price. Perfect for most carpentry needs and general building work. Good length of hose and the power take off also works really well with all my tools.

I have only used my dust extractors to clean my shed so far but I cannot fault it the suction is fab and cleans really well. It’s a shame the courier did not perform as good, no communication when they were due to deliver my order so I missed them and it was like getting blood out of a stone to get it re-delivered. Overall another great product from makita and well worth the money.

Purchased this extractor because my previous 25 year old Hitachi one finally gave up after many years of trouble free use in a professional capacity and I also like Makita tools. I'm semi retired now and my main use for this is dust extraction on power tools in my workshop and house I'm renovating and didn't want to spend a fortune. The deal offered with Amazon Prime was to good to miss. One excellent point is that it connects to all my tools without having to adapt anything but you do need to discover its clever little quirks on the hose end, bits which unscrew and adjust. The hose and mains cable are very long which is a plus, the provided tools are ok but a little on the "cheap" side but do the job, nozzle, brush, floor brush and upholstery brush. The extractor has storage built in for all these but I found they got in the way so store them separately. The power take off and on/off switch are simple and accessible easily. Its quieter than my old Hitachi and acceptable noise wise. The overrun on tool switch off could be a little longer. Here is my only but quite important negative, filtration. My Hitachi had the choice a nylon type "bag" like filter or cartridge. The bag was not for collection but acted as a filter to use with or without the cartridge and was very efficient and easily cleaned in a couple of minutes, this was ideal for dust from sanding or cutting MDF. The cartridge filter is not really suitable for fine dust as it clogs very quickly and takes ages to clean which is a very messy job, mask needed. I thought the Makita had a similar system but unfortunately not, the bag was for collection use and not cleanable as such. I am currently machining a lot of MDF and the cartridge filter blocks very quickly, to overcome this I have to connect the extractor to a Triton DCA300 bucket system I have which has its own filter and is easily cleaned, trouble is when swapping tools forgetting to swap over the extractor pipe. My old Hitachi filter bag would not fit the Makita unfortunately a bit to small in diameter. So I have to say this extractor is not really suitable for fine dust, ie, sanding or mdf, unless you are happy to keep cleaning the cartridge filter or keep buying the paper collection bags. It is however excellent otherwise but lost a star because of it. It gobbles up small rubble etc. with no problem and is also a wet one which I probably would never use.

Just came back to check a spec and realised I've had this 5 years. It runs most of the day. Awesome machine. Nozzle that comes with it fits Festool tools. What more is there to say. I would recommend!!

So I'm keen DIY'er and I was looking for a garage/workshop extractor to replace a old but well used Guild model I have. I did a lot of research and I wanted something branded below the £300 price tag as it's only for occasional weekend use. On paper the Makita looked a great fit but I was instantly dissappointed as it produced low suction power and has serious design floors. First my biggest gripe was no cable management!!!..Seriously Makita you cannot expect people to put up with 15m of over guage electrical cable causing a trip hazard when not in use. There is no provision to store the cable other than a useless rubber belt which is so difficult to use. The electrical cable used is so dense it becomes impossible to hold and gather. Really...really poor design. On a positive note Makita do provide a good selection of attachments and a reasonable length hose although I did feel the quality of accessories was well below par for such a premium brand. They felt cheap and light guage mouldings. The metal hose tubes where a good length but again the steel guage felt very thin. The actual Extractor unit itself looks well make and the inclusions a 3 Pin socket for plugging in a electric sander was a useful touch. The extractor glides well on the wheels and the buttons are easy to operate. As regards noise the unit was a little louder than expected. My next biggest moan was the performance. The suction power was so low it felt like I spent twice as long cleaning compared to my old £80 Guild extractor. My Guild has a 1500W motor whereas the Makita is 1200W but still I would not expect such a drop in performance. Needless to say I had no option but to return this item as in my opinion it has too many flaws which I must admit I would have lived with if the quality of accessories and extractor performance were acceptable. If you have never used a extractor before you might think this unit is good but if you'v eused a Guild or Henry even then you are already using a superior tool!. Finally this extractor is only L class rating so anyone working with fine dust particles you are much safer purchasing a M Class. My hunt for the right solution goes on. I'm just a little surprised by the void in the market for a good product at a reasonable price.

Can do power sanding indoors with this. Thought it was a bit of a luxury as a diyer but it's by far the tool I get the most use of. A million times better than a simple canvas bag on a power tool. Also my main home vacuum cleaner.
