I'm a brotha who has never shaved before. how frequently do i replace the blade and how frequently should i be shaving?

The blade has 2 sides. You can use each side on your face until you are not comfortable (roughly 10 shaves).If you shave your head you'll get roughly 2 on each blade side totalling 4.There are other blades out there though. Bevel is good. Merkur is good. Shark is good. Each has a different feel. So even though they last different amounts of time, it doesn't mean "better". . . . . I suggest using the Beverly 20 pack and then exploring other options if needed.

How does this blade compare to other blade manufacturers, like Astra or Feather?

I've used Bevel, Feather and Astra blades in my Bevel razor. The Bevel and Feather blades (using short strokes and a light touch) gave me the best shaving experience in terms of reducing skin irritation/razor bumps. To me they were identical, and I read something on another site that suggests Feather makes the Bevel blade. I love both of them, but the Bevel blades cost less. The Astra is a good blade, but for my skin it's not as good as either of the 2 above.
