Responsive Tech Support!
After nearly two years of flawless usage, my unit wouldn't turn on so I emailed tech support and received a response in 10 minutes to "With everything disconnected except for the power cord, press and hold the power button on the converter until the unit restarts or a 30-second count which ever is first, then release. " worked perfectly.Much better than some other units on the market. Great than you can record to micro SD or USB thumb.

Easy to use
Easy to use, good instructions. I put 8mm and VHS on flash drive and now I watch them on my smart tv - so amazing to know I will not lose those videos from 20 and 30 years ago!!

Surprisingly easy to make digital copies of videos
I rarely write reviews but my experience with this product made the difference. At first, I had 2nd thoughts about keeping it due to the price. But after setting it up with my video recorder and trying it, I was amazed at how easy it is to either set it and forget it to record the whole tape or simply press the record button to start and stop recording to make individual video clips. The quality of the video is fantastic. Don’t be thrown off by the stretched monitor view, it doesn’t record digitally that way. Lastly, another thing that impressed me was how quickly I received a reply to a quick question via email. I received a reply within the hour from Tyler and that really sold me.

40 or so video conversions in and...(updated again)
the flash drive has stopped working. The converter itself is very very easy to use and delivers very decent quality MP4s, video and audio. The capture to the flash drive included with the system was also great. That made it easy to just transfer all captures from miniDVs (so far) to my desktop (windows), and I was able to move a few files at a time over. After I captured and moved about 40 files, the flash stopped being recognized by the converter and my desktop. Good thing all files were moved, but now I have to buy and format a new flash drive as I have many more tapes to convert. Stay tuned.Update: New flash drive purchased ($13) - exactly the same as provided by the vendor. Worked with the converter out of the package, did not have to format. Began capturing again and all was well for about 10 or so more captures. Captures of a few hi8 tapes went well, quality was good. Then, the system just stopped working. It would not power on. It's a brick. I have requested a replacement which is supposed to arrive in a few days. Stay tuned.Update: The new system arrived within a few days and the return went smoothly. The new unit completed the rest of our hi8 tapes (nearly 100 in all) with no problem. One thing I did notice is that high action video is jerky. Sometimes, not always. The more action, the worse the jerking. The viewfinder video on the camcorder is fine, but the jerking translates to the MP4 video. That might be due to my 30 year old camcorder or tape degradation or both. The S-video didn't work at all. However, seeing as I spent about $280 with LegacyBox converting 20 miniDV and hi8 tapes, and I spent $200 on this setup, I saved quite a bit of $$$ converting the rest of the tapes myself.Others have slammed the software...I'm not even bothering with it, so I suppose I could've purchased the system without it. Today, I'm converting a few hi8 tapes that were not successfully converted by LegacyBox. So far, so good.If someone would figure out a system to convert old film reels with video AND audio for this price, you'd make a fortune. Even LegacyBox can't do that...video only.

An amazing product!!!!
I don't normally write product reviews but this converter certainly deserves one. It is a premium product and is so easy to use. I converted 51 family videos effortlessly. The U.S. based tech support is amazing. They respond within minutes. Such a pleasure.

Works great !
Works great does everything it is supposed to do very happy so farI ordered this bundle package as I wanted a bigger screen and the memory stick.I also read all reviews and videos prior to receiving this and even contacted their customer support before I even had the unit and they were very responsive and answered all my questions. It really is just plug-in play. I have not downloaded and used the editing software yet, but here are my first impressions.I wanted to use this primarily to transfer digital Hi8 tapes from my Sony TVR 315 camcorder. It did this quite well and picture was great. I did not have any issues with jerky video, so there was no need to use an S video cable. Then I started to transfer old VCR tapes with a Sony VCR. This worked just as well what I can say is that if the quality of the video going in is good. It will be good going out.Example: only on one or two VCR tapes had jerky video here and there. when played them on a TV directly I had the same issue. All I did was use a VCR head cleaner tape and this corrected about 75% of the issue again this was not any fault of the unit itself, and I did not have an S video out connection on the back of my VCRI did try to use the HDMI out of the unit while transferring tapes but this did not work while converting. It seems to work only on playback mode not a big deal for me. The speaker in the rear of the unit is quite low depending on your environment. This may be an issue, but not for me. The battery only last about 55 minutes. So I kept it, plugged in via the included power supplyThe way I use this was to use the OK button to pause transfer of the video, but still retain the same file. You will find that files will get quite large if it is a 60 minute tape this is not a problem for the unit, but would recommend breaking up into 5 to 10 minute files. Then I would completely power down the unit remove the USB stick and transfer to my laptop. You can easily make a full 30 minute file. It will just take longer to transfer from the USB drive to your laptop or computer. The key here is to label or make a descriptive file name once you transfer it to your hard drive as this device does not put them in a specific order on the USB drive, so name the file once it’s on your laptop then continue transferring. I consider this raw footage, and at some point I will play with the software to have a finished product with edits but for now it is doing exactly what it should do very well. I highly recommend this I have transferred at this .10 to 15 hours of video from both types of media, I will update this once I get to the software downloaded
