Four of these in a 4-bay Synology RAID 5, 24/7, healthy and worth the upgrade from 4TB
I run four of these in a four-bay Synology in RAID 5, with a Samsung NVMe as read cache. The array is on 24/7 with no spin-down, handling a Plex media server, backups, and surveillance recording. That is a genuinely constant workload, not a drive that idles most of the day. These replaced the 4TB IronWolf Pros I had been running. The jump in capacity was the reason, but they are also noticeably faster, and I would buy them again without hesitating. All four report Healthy with no errors. Temperatures are worth knowing about if you are filling a four-bay enclosure: mine sit between 47 and 49°C under normal operation. That is inside Seagate's rated range and I have had no thermal issues, but if you are packing four 7200 RPM drives into a compact NAS, expect them to run warm rather than cool. Airflow in your enclosure matters more than it would with one or two drives. On noise: these are audible. When the platters are working I can clearly hear them from my desk about eight feet away. It is not a whine or a grinding sound, just the normal seek noise of enterprise-class 7200 RPM drives, but do not expect a silent NAS. If your unit lives in a bedroom or a quiet office, put it in a closet or accept the background noise. This is the single thing most listings will not tell you and the thing most likely to surprise a first-time NAS builder.

Worked great out of the box. Seagate's warranty experience was great too.
Worked out of the box. Imeediately checked the warranty, was valid for the full 5 years expected on the "Pro" series. NOT any OEM. Ran a full smartdrv long test, no errors. Note this was NOT an "OEM" unit -- do be careful about those with possible warranty hassles -- they are not always covered under regular consumer warranties I bought this unit to replace a previous 16TB Pro that failed (smartdrv caught the error and emailed me) about 18 months into that warranty. Since I use RAID 0 mirrors, I had no data loss. VERY HAPPY to report that Seagate replaced the older failed drive under warranty without any hassle, and I had the replacement withiin a week of my sending the old one off. The replacement also ran smartdrv long test with zero errors, it's on the shelf as the in-house spare, it shows on the warrant checker site as having the remaining full warramty the failed unit had. Shout-out to Seagate for completely fulfilling my expectations.

Replacements from Seagate can take forever
I ordered two of these drives (ST12000NT001). They work very well and are very quiet in a be quiet 802. They do not have the 5-second click that I read WD Black drives have. Unfortunately, one of them died (post-return date). I have spent many hours working with Seagate to get a replacement drive. They have kept trying to send me an IronWolf (non-Pro) drive (ST12000VN0008). I received the first drive and was ready to send it back, but they tried to send another non-Pro drive. Apparently, they are out of stock, so their system wants to downgrade my drive. I even mentioned that Amazon has them in stock if they want to buy one for me. :) It is a great drive when it works, but the return system is rather lacking which can play into the decision to purchase future drives. The people I have spoken with via the support bot have been very nice. The down side is that the system wants to give me a lesser model. If you need to return yours, watch carefully on what the replacement is. Report Card (if Amazon allowed split scores): - Drive: A (when it works) - Support staff: A (very polite and helpful but a bit uninformed by Seagate on how to handle odd cases) - Support system: F (Seagate *really* needs to fix its process, so the correct drive is sent in the first place) Update (2024/2/29): Seagate still cannot find a replacement IronWolf Pro drive to send me. I have spent hours on chat with different people. The last two times I contacted Seagate, I have received the "check back in 48 business hours" after being in a chat for more than two hours. The killer is that they have that unit available on their own website for sale. I have given the support people high ratings each time, yet the "Would you recommend Seagate?" question keeps dropping. I am now dropping my rating here from three to two stars. Update (2024/4/1): It continues. Seagate sent me another incorrect drive. I am currently speaking with support. The best they can do is find an NE001 model even though they have the NT001 models in stock at Amazon and Seagate. They say they can only provide Factory Certified and not new drives under warranty. However, they had plenty of time to refurbish the drive I sent them. I know they cannot just send me back the same drive, but I am very frustrated. Knocking the review down to one star. I doubt I will buy another Seagate drive at this point. It is too much hassle. Update (2024/6/19): A bunch more back and forth has happened. I received another incorrect drive. There was confusion on the status of my RMA. Some thought it was finished probably due to how long the information in the ticket was. Finally, I got in touch with a support person that was able to find the right group above her to handle it. They told me, via her, to keep the incorrect drive, and they would send a new drive. Well, it was another refurbished drive, which is what I expected at the beginning of this, yet it was the correct drive. Checking the warranty on the drive showed it to be only a few months, so I had to contact support again to rectify it. At first, they bumped it to three years. He had me check their site to verify it was correct but was quick to fix it to five years. Seagate should make their own drives easier to differentiate if even their own support can be confused. My head hurts. :) At long last, I have the correct replacement drive. It only took 4 months. Ugh! Update (2024/7/5): Three weeks. That is how long the replacement drive lasted before it crashed. Update (2024/7/30): Not as much difficulty this time, although spent hours on it, another replacement drive is on its way. Update (2024/8/5): The replacement drive was DOA. Of course.

Excellent NAS Hard Drive!
Less than a month in use, but these drives have been performing great so far. Installation was straightforward, and they run smoothly and quietly in my NAS setup. The build quality feels excellent, and I’m confident they will provide reliable storage performance for years to come. Very satisfied with this purchase! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Good produt but shipping need to be more carefull
I ordered 2 12TB disks for my NAS along with 2 other small products. Amazon split it into 2 shipments. One shipment arrived with a disk + 2 small things inside, everything packed in a paper bag, while the second shipment of the second disk arrived in a hard package and was packed better than the first shipment. These are expensive and delicate disks, so I would expect Amazon to show more responsibility for the first shipment to be packed much better. As for the matter, the 2 disks are already working in my NAS properly, I hope there will be no problems with them. I am happy with them so far and the price is reasonable.

The current price is outrageous.
I bought two of these back in November '25 and paid $299 each; now they're $579—an increase of over 93%, which is absurd. I need two more, but I'm going to wait a bit. They work perfectly.

Fast, NAS quality HDD drives that will last and provide lots of elbow room.
Great NAS quality hardened HD drives that can fulfill all your requirements. Fast and big. Made for RAID but just as useful individually with high MTBF. Got 2 in my rig.

Defected unit out-of-the-box and no refund after the seller received the returned item!
Final update: shipped the item back on 12/14, the seller received it on 12/20. Then after a 30-minite Amazon support chat, 2 straight reviews (one for the product itself and one for the seller) and a message to the seller, finally the refund was posted on 12/25 (without any contact from the seller whatsoever). Of cause since this item was on sale, I missed the similar priced replacement and have to pay more for the same capacity. Once again: A BIG disappointment! Additional information: the return process took more than a week and I still do not have the refund! This seller requires all returned items to be shipped via UPS by customers (Amazon drop locations are not valid) and would not send the refund even when the returned item arrived. I will avoid it in future and let all know this is what their "normal" return procedure is! A brand-new HDD with the manufactured date as 23NOV2024 is making a low volume beeping noise and blocking my PC from booting up once plugged in. Tried all available connectors and an HDD credal, same result. This unit should never pass QC and yet now I have to print a UPS label to ship it back to get the refund. A big disappointment!

1 worked , the other one was DOA
I am giving for stars mostly for the support I got from Amazon customer service regarding my order. I bought two 12TB drives on the 23rd nov during the sale period. I got them on the 15th Dec. I was traveling during that time, but when I got home, I installed them right away in my brand new NAS. Unfortunately only one worked without a problem. The other one was spinning but was not loading and reading nothing. I tried to put in intro a PC and also a 3.5 sata adapter and connected to a laptop. The same problem-it wasn't readable. Luckly amazon customer service undarstood the problem and gave me a refund. I bought a WD drives this time.

Seagate int'l warranty did a RMA for 1 of 4 that was not working.. so still happy at super price.
I bought 4 of these, 3 were working and 1 spoilt.. i almost returned it but found out i could send to Seagate for RMA to get a replacement.. so i did that as i bought it at a super price.. returning it would mean i'd have to buy another at a much higher price. Overall still happy since i can get a new one from Seagate as they have international warranty. Update 18May'25: i sent in the 12TB to Seagate for RMA, and they sent me a replacement 18TB.. how awesome is that.. :-)
