Why can't it be used on a painted wall?

I used it on the crib for a baby not a wall

Is this usable to cover corners? For example the corner of a bed frame or a table?

Yes! All or any sharp corners. Mine are on the corners at the bottom of my cupboard in the kitchen because it kept hitting me in my head. I’m about that exact height for it to do that so I ordered the corner covers. And they work great!

What kind of substance is this? silicone, natural rubber, pvc, or anything else? Is it supple? Thanks!

I'm not sure what substance it's made of, but it's incredibly soft and malleable.
