Actually, this is a comprehensive guide to writing about art that covers a lot of ground: from debating "what is art" to differentiating between reviews and catalog entries, to discussing drafting and editing. This book gives a good introductory practical guide to writing interpretively about art. My only complaint is the cost. At almost $40, the price is extremely inflated for information that is so basic and for a dearth of illustrations.

Bought this book for my art history class and it is VERY informative. There are sample essays in the book and it tells you what you should and shouldn't write which was very helpful when I was writing my essays. Overall, definitely recommend if you want to write about art or are taking an art class that requires writing an essay.

Required for class. There were probably three chapters that were remarkably helpful, but the rest was pretty much a book on how to write an essay. This 'short guide' is 350 pages long!

This "Book" is quite excellent and well written. High marks for the author. The book is extremely helpful, especially for those of us just beginning to scratch the surface of the world of art. It will help anyone that truly wants to learn about art.

Textbook was useful, Amazon's standarda nit so much. Came ripped, dog eared, and coffee stained.

I've read my fair share of 'how to write about art' books and this ranks as one of my favorites. I used it as a PhD student and now I recommend it to my juniors and seniors. It's clear, concise, well sectioned and you can dip in and out of it.
