The highly anticipated fifth book in the bestselling Dark Verse series. What happens when the most ruthless obsession finds its darkest fixation? She lives in the shadows. He rules them. She's the moon, and he the dark night encompassing her. She's surrounded by demons, and he's the biggest devil of them all. And she's his. Passion, obsession, possesion. Theirs is a tale of danger, deviance, dread, desires, and the darkest flavors of love. Annihilation is born. Disclaimer: The series must be read in order. Please read the author's note. Review: this book (and series) will stay with me forever - It's been a minute since I've read a book that has drawn so much out of me emotionally I feel genuinely depleted by the end, but here we are. Where to even begin... RuNyx's prose has always possessed this kind of poetic quality to it. Her craft gets stronger with each new book, and the way she evokes the heavier emotions - like trauma or grief - always leaves me feeling seen and raw and aching in a way that can only be described as cathartic. The Annihilator is the culmination of all of the foundation pieces she's laid in the previous Dark Verse books - the main couple in this story (the Shadow Man and Lyla) are the linchpin for the entire series, the driving forces behind everything that has happened, the catalyst that started it all. And watching these two opposites interact, witnessing how perfectly they complement each other - it's a kind of love that makes your soul ache. These two have had literally everything taken from them - Lyla in particular. We watch her claw her way through each hellish day as she struggles to cling to hope. And then we watch her shatter, and it is absolutely gutting because the universality of what she feels is so harrowingly familiar, even if the circumstances (blessedly) are not so dire for the majority of us. But that pain is familiar. That hollow emptiness is familiar. And seeing it captured so perfectly on the page... I bled when Lyla bled, and now I feel a kind of kinship to her. But it's not those darker emotions that will leave this book being so memorable for me. The real beauty comes from the healing, from watching Lyla take back her power after enduring a life so deeply traumatizing and picking up the pieces of who she once was and transforming into something new, something stronger than before. And it is that that RuNyx really excels at in her stories - capturing the unparalleled, transformative power that unconditional acceptance, love, and support can give to a person. Every person who has hurt or ached or been broken deserves to have someone like the Shadow Man in their corner - perhaps not with that level of amoral intensity, but then again, it's his absolutism where she is concerned that gives Lyla the steady ground she needs to pick herself up again and again and again. It's all about trust. And the trust these two share, the consuming intensity of what they feel for each other - it has the power to burn the entire world down around them, and it's beautiful to behold. This book took a lot out of me, but I feel a deep sense of gratitude for its existence (even with the headache I will now have for the rest of the day thanks to how much it made me cry). Moments of this book broke open old wounds, but it also provided catharsis... which has pretty much become standard for any and all of RuNyx's books at this point. She's gotten into the bad habit of breaking and rebuilding me time and again. The writing in this book was exquisite. The story was horribly dark at times, but it only made the moments of light that much more poignant and impactful. The romance between Lyla and the Shadow Man was on an entirely different level. And yes, the spice was immaculate. Our girl went there and then went a little further and I love her for it. I've said this before about RuNyx's books, but it will always bear repeating: this woman has this uncanny ability to touch my soul in places I didn't think could be touched, and The Annihilator has irrevocably left its mark on me. Review: This series has completely captivated me - Wow. Justโฆ wow. The Annihilator absolutely wrecked me in the best way possible. After reading the previous books in the series, I was already hooked on Runyxโs dark and addictive storytelling, but this one took everything to a whole new level. I couldnโt stop reading once I startedโit was impossible to put down. The character development in this book is just chefโs kiss. The protagonist is as intense and complex as ever, and I found myself completely captivated by their journey. Itโs incredible how Runyx can write such morally gray characters who are so easy to root for, even when theyโre at their lowest. The emotional depth in this one is so much more than I expected, and I was left reeling from all the twists and turns. The tension between the leads is everything. That slow burn had me on the edge of my seat, constantly waiting for the moment when things would finally erupt. And when they did? Damn. The chemistry is off the charts, and I found myself caught up in every interaction, every charged moment. The romance is just as dark and twisted as the plot, and I love how itโs so intricately tied to everything happening in the story. And can we talk about the plot? The twists were so unpredictable, and I was constantly left trying to catch my breath. Every page felt like it was leading me to something huge, and I was hooked from the first chapter. The action is intense, the stakes are so high, and the world-building just keeps getting deeper and more immersive. The Annihilator is a book that stays with you long after you finish it. Itโs gritty, emotional, and addicting in every way. If you love dark romance with high stakes, incredible character growth, and twists that will leave you breathless, you needto read this. I canโt wait to see where Runyx takes us next. This series has completely captivated me, and The Annihilator has only made me more invested. Highly recommend! โญโญโญโญโญ (4.5/5)

Obsession at first sight, an entire sky full of stars โญ๐โญ
Obsession at first sight, an entire sky full of stars โญโญ๐โญโญ Her name was Lyla, her hair red as flames. She didn't know where she was from, not even what was her real name. Not until HE came. In the hands of The Syndicate, she lived a life of a s*x slave, counting the cracks on the ceiling, until Shadow Man showed her the stars. [Readers are peeking inside a very dark closet with the fifth installment to the beloved Dark Verse Series. It contains dark and adult themes, some of them very graphic. Please take the trigger warnings into consideration before entering this adventure.] This story is like being taken. Roughly. Against the wall. Repeatedly. With the kind of passion, that sucks the air from your very lungs, leaving you delirious, dizzy and craving more. Book by book, RuNyx is diving deeper into the frightfully beautiful darkness that is the Dark Verse. Shadow Man is yet the darkest of them all and it was obsession at first sight for me. "I will set the whole world on fire before I let anything hurt you again." Shadow Man is like the flame of his lighter; haunted, elusive and dangerous. No one knows his face, but Lyla, who he's been protecting from afar, leaving a line of corpses in the wake of anyone who tries to hurt her. The fire of his 'flamma' keeps him coming back, the promises of answers he is not giving her what keeps her waiting for his return. Many wounds will bleed, her soul will shatter and her mind break, until his possession of her is complete and he takes her to his mountain, safe from the world. "You're the moon to my dark night, flamma." His obsession of her is like the darkest of poetry; each and every word sharp like a dagger that might cut you deadly and heavy with passion so intense it makes your breath hitch. Her brightness shines for him in his own eternal darkness, anchoring him to her like gravity a planet to its moon. She was free. She was fearless. She was flying. And it was all because of him. And that was more than enough. In taking her with him, Shadow Man gives Lyla the most precious gift of all; her own free will. The safety of the mountain is a space for her to explore and to find out who she is. For the first time in her life, she has the freedom to decide for herself, to find out what she likes, what she enjoys. Simplicities people take for granted, but which to her, are worth more than gold. "If you ever choose another, make sure you k1ll me first. Because I will annihilate the f*cking world before I let you go." Theirs is a chemistry that will burn you. Cut you. Like a blade of the dagger, it kisses your skin, its icy coldness gliding over your artery, deadly beautiful in its whispered promises of a love so dark it will end you. Annihilate you. "Trust me still?" In his inability to understand normal human emotions, Shadow Man says the most beautiful of things in the most unexpected of ways, his mis-matched eyes devouring you alive while he takes you. For him, her trust is the most addictive drug of all. "If there was any love in this world of mine, Lyla, it would be you." RuNyx's stories stay with you for life, for her words of love passionate and neverending, are the heartbeats of immortality ๐ฅ The final act, the sixth book to end the series, "The Syndicater", comes later in 2022.

This was Mehh
Physical Book Condition: The outward appearance of the book seemed fine. There were no scuffs or dents or tears on the cover or the pages. It was brand new which is what I ordered. The book only had a few minor grammatical errors otherwise the editing seemed to be fine. I don't believe the table of contents matched up with the actual page numbers which was only a personal annoyance for when I'm gaging if I want to read another chapter or not. Book Review: Amazon doesn't let me list them, but make sure you check the trigger warnings before reading this book in case the content is too dark for you. Ehhh this one just wasnโt for me. It seemed like the books were getting better with each one, but I had a hard time connecting with this one. It was for sure the darkest of the series so far based on the content alone. Maybe the CNC side of it just wasnโt my thing. Every scene we had with CNC just either made me cringe or feel uncomfortable, but itโs also the first time Iโve read a book with that in it so now I know itโs not for me personally. My heart broke so much for Lyla with what she had to endure, but at the same time I still felt detached from the overall story. Also for some reason the books leading up to this one had me expecting the Shadow Man to be some old man and not someone the same age range as all the people weโve been introduced to so far. But Iโm glad he was younger cause I think that kind of age gap wouldโve gave me the ick with all the other things going on in the book. Iโm so mad I didnโt know the last book wasnโt out yet til I got to book four or I wouldโve held off on reading this series til it was complete. While this one wasnโt my favorite, Iโd still like to finish out the series and get some closure. For now, I give both the series and this book 3 stars. โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ/ ๐ถ๏ธ๐ถ๏ธ Heads up/Good to Know: Multiple Parts, Multiple POV, Playlist included, Bonus Chapter at the End

A Dark Symphony of Obsession and Annihilation
In 'The Annihilator,' the fifth installment of Runyx's Dark Verse series, readers are treated to a dark and thrilling journey that undoubtedly deserves a solid four-star rating. This highly anticipated addition to the series delves deep into the realm of obsession and fixation, crafting a story that's as intense as it is enthralling. The narrative explores a unique and captivating relationship between two central characters, one living in the shadows and the other ruling them. Their connection is electric, characterized by passion, obsession, and an undeniable possession. Runyx masterfully paints a picture of a world teeming with demons, with the male lead standing out as the most menacing of them all. The story delves into themes of danger, deviance, dread, and the darkest depths of human desires, resulting in a complex and evocative portrayal of love that is far from conventional. The annihilation that is born from their union is both thrilling and chilling. Readers should be prepared for a journey filled with graphic content and dark themes, as this is a tale not for the faint of heart. However, if you're a fan of the Dark Verse series, 'The Annihilator' offers another fantastic addition to the collection, pushing the boundaries of dark romance and delivering a compelling, albeit intense, reading experience.

The Annihilator
Genre: Dark Romance Series Type: Character Series (must be read in order) Book Length: Novel POV: Alternating Dual Setting: Various places Male MC: Shadow Man is lethal, powerful and mysterious. He encounters Lyla one fateful night and becomes utterly obsessed with her for 6 years. He is her dark protector and saves her from countless evil men. Shadow Manโs age is not revealed but I would guess early 30s. He is tall, muscular, and has dark hair and mismatched eyes - one black and one golden-green. Female MC: Lyla has lived a very sad and dark life. She was taken by an evil Syndicate at a very young age and used and abused her entire life. She meets Shadow Man and becomes enthralled with him as he watches over her. Lyla is 24, petite, and has beautiful red hair and bright green eyes. Endearment: Flamma Spice Level: Medium Frequency of Spice: Low/Medium Angst Level: Medium Cliffhanger: Yes, but for the series overall. Epilogue: No My Review: This book was intense and so emotional. It was very gritty and raw and I cried for Lyla and the pain and suffering sheโs endured. She is a damaged and broken woman but amazingly strong, and I loved her progression throughout the story. Shadow Man is deliciously dark and possessive of her. She is the only thing that makes him feel in his emotionless life and he ends anyone that hurts her. I absolutely adored them together. Their journey is full of painful truths and beautiful healing. The book ends well but there is a lot more to the overall story. RuNyx will be releasing a 6th and final book in the series that will be told from multiple POVs and wraps up all the loose ends. I canโt wait to dive into that and see how everything comes together. I would highly recommend this series, itโs truly amazing!

The best in the series to date
>Book Review โ The Annihilator >I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 5th in the Dark Verse series and ends positively for the couple, but the plot continues. This story is all about Luna (Lyla) and the infamous Shadow Man (Dainn). The Shadow Man has shown up in all the previous books. His role was to anonymously help the different characters, especially Tristan, with hints and clues. Shadow Man seemed to be everywhere at once, almost paranormal. This book introduces the man behind Shadow Man and his origin. >Dainn is Shadow Man. He seems to be on the autism spectrum. He runs into Luna (renamed as Lyla) when she is a sex slave. He doesnโt save her right away. He just kills whoever buys her. The story is interesting when Dainn describes his lack of emotion. He is always trying to figure out why people act as they do. Watching Lyla heal was so beautiful. >This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. This book was the hardest, by far, to read. The editing was less than stellar. This series is exceptional, so the editing needs to be corrected. The subject matter also made the book hard to read, but boy was it worth the read!

Wow, Runyx managed to impact me again. Simply, Uall
I was aware of this story, the emotional charge it would bring and I was not wrong. But like everything this author writes, she manages to show us the characters' feelings, understand their minds even when they are distorted. Luna girl, you are amazing, how amazing to be able to meet you and to see you start to bloom, you deserve it. And Shadow, I just want you for myself. I finish the book I want more, but happy to know that we will have an epic ending for all the characters of this amazing series.

completely, utterly obsessed
When I tell you I ATE this book, oof.. this has got the be my favourite one of the series next to Morana and Tristanโs story. I admire the way Runyx was able to intercalate bits of the story piece by piece, adding each one to the puzzle. I rarely give 5/5 โญ๏ธ in my ratings. But this one, it touched my soul. It was genius to introduce her like this in this book and OFCOURSE the shadow man is the one thatโs obsessed with HER. Even though I saw it coming from a mile away and figured it out pretty quickly, I loved the way their story unfolded. I actually teared up at her discovery. Past vs present, flashbacks and all the feelings involved. Chefโs kiss. Spice level was satisfying 4.5/5๐ถ๏ธ

Shadowman is my man
What a book! Definitely one of my favourites of the year. RuNyxโs writing is ever so poetic and so many emotions were evoked as I was reading the story of Lyla and the Shadow Man. These two own me, heart, mind and soul. Shadowman is a very controversial character in the Dark Verse universe. He never claims to be a good man and he probably never will be. We humans are unpredictable, complicated, imperfect and he is exactly that. All that mattered to him was his flamma. Talk about a man who knows what he wants and how to get it. His obsession for her is one of the many reasons I love him and Iโll love him forevermore for what he did for her in chapter 18.

My favorite in the Dark Verse series
Now we are talking! This book in some ways gave me ACOTAR vibes and made me think of ACOTAR, I don't know why. It's so wried cause this isn't a fantasy or even close to. But I freaking loved it! And I think this might be my favorite out of all of them in this series. It is a lot darker, I would say it is the darkest one and it has a lot of heavy topics. So please read the varnings before going into it. It was really great tho and I feel like this was waaay better then the other book for some reason. I just want a novella with this couple. Now let's wait and see where this will end in the last book (when ever it comes out). I hope I'll be blown away, otherwise I am gonna be so mad!
