Camera is installed. Picture shows only black. Any ideas where I went wrong?

Make sure you turn camera on in stereo settings first. I had to cut the white wire to make the picture come up for some reason. It works now. Strange because I tried 2 other cameras to troubleshoot and they worked fine. Put this back on and cut white wire and project done.

Will this camera hook up to a CD player with a 7" display?

If it has camera capabilities yes I have it on my pioneer hooked to a swatch so I can turn it on and off when I want to so I can see my trailer while towing not just backing up

When this is connected to camera ready Sony Radio with display, will it turn on automatically when vehicle is put in reverse or do you do it manually?

When I plugged this into the wiring already run to the licence plate area of my truck, it worked perfectly. I did not have to do a thing. When I shifted into Reverse it worked. I am impressed given the cost and would not hesitate to recommend this product. I have an alpine aftermarket in a 2007 dodge Ram
