I'm not sure about everyone else but mine was perfect. Perhaps the one star reviewers expected the spatula to be coated in soft silicone like other spatulas. This one is a hard plastic-like product.

Can this be used on a cast iron pan safely?

It could but carefully. I feel it is more specifically for non-stick. A rocket hot cast iron pan might dump too much heat into the thin end of the spatula and melt it. JMO
