This is a great disc drive enclosure and a perfect addition to a workstation setup. It looks sleek and modern, so there’s no need to hide it away on your desk. It comes with both the power cable and USB cable, making setup simple and straightforward. For my needs, using just one drive reader, it works perfectly. If you’re planning to run multiple drives, the cost could add up. USB 3 provides all the speed you’ll realistically need for disc media, so there’s no need for anything faster. Solid build, clean look, and reliable performance. Highly recommended for single-drive users.

This is the type of product that fits a need perfectly. 5.25” drive bays are unicorns in PC’s in 2025. I upgraded my 2012 to a new boutique gaming PC system with no 5.25” drive bays available. I thought of having to home build or modify the new PC and then came across this in Amazon. Bought based on reviews, photos & videos. I am not disappointed at all. Great product that is well designed, simple, well built and perfectly meets my needs. The rubber feet are the chefs kiss as they hold it steady and secure atop my new PC. I have a DVD and Blue Ray collections I enjoy viewing and this allows me to do so in a enclosure that esthetically blends in with my modern rig.

Well pleased. The product arrived undamaged, on time (actually the day before I expected it), and was well packaged for shipment. Installation of Blu-Ray drive was straight forward and simple. The only problem was the package of screws to hold the drive in place was not included as advertised (manufacturer error not seller I'm sure). If someone didn't have a supply of screws like I do it might be a problem. I plugged everything in, turned it on, rebooted and... nothing happened. Finally I did a cold start, (completely powered down my desktop) restarted with the unit turned on, and now it works perfectly. I don't even have to reboot, just turn it on and my Linux OS picks it up immediately. I've used it with my laptop with the failed DVD drive (that's really why I got it), even plugged it into my television usb port and played Blu-Ray directly to my television. That eliminated the need for a Blu-Ray player purchase, thank you very much. I don't usually write reviews because my experience will probably not be yours , but I couldn't be happier with this product if I tried. The NexStar DX2 USB 3.0 External Enclosure exceeded my expectations. The aluminum alloy build feels solid and premium, and it fits my full‑size 5.25" DVD‑ROM drive perfectly. Once assembled, it looks clean, runs quietly, and performs exactly as it should. USB 3.0 speeds are fast and reliable, and the hot‑swappable design is a great convenience. If you need a dependable external enclosure for an optical drive, this one delivers on all fronts.

It works good. I paired it with an lg blu ray drive that I flashed with libredrive firmware over SATA 1 year ago. This drive often caused Windows Explorer to crash on my Windows 10 PCs. The file explorer will forever be indexing and not be usable until I restart Windows Explorer in the task manager. Then it breaks the thumbnails until I restart my PC. This was not a problem when I used the the same drive over SATA. The enclosure is built well. It is aluminum with plastic bumpers. The package comes with a small screwdriver and many extra screws in case you lose some. The small drawback here is the standoff feet. They are 4 little rubber pieces that attach to the enclosure with adhesive. If you carry this thing in a backpack the legs will eventually fall off and get lost. A cheap shortcut solution for a $60 product in my opinion. The OWC Mercury Pro has feet that screw on for the same price. Overall, the cons are not deal breakers for me so I won't be returning it or anything but if I were to do it again I would buy the OWC Mercury Pro.

This is an nicely-engineered little enclosure with a decent build quality at its price point. It's perfect for my SATA Blu-ray drive, which drive does not slide around inside the enclosure after securing it with the included screws. They also included rubberized, adhesive feet to keep it from sliding around. It is truly plug-and-play: power it on, plug it in, and you're ready to go (at least on the latest major versions of Windows 11 and Ubuntu). I have already used it for 10-12 power on hours ripping multiple discs without any transfer or power issues.

I work a lot with video and optical storage. It's hard to find a computer case that includes ODD bays and allows 280/360 AIO mounting. I've tried using an external DVD drive, but most are based on slow read & write laptop drives. This enclosure allows me to use an 5.25 internal 16X Blu-Ray/16X DVD writer I already had. The case is built of heavy aluminum with plastic end caps. Lots of internal room for even the longest drives. Installation is simple with all drive & mounting holes lining up. Win10 & 11 both recognize the drive links to standard drivers. Heavy case means even at high drive speeds the noise is low. Advertised SATA III & USB 3.0 interface speeds are more for show than real world. Real speeds will depend on your ODD drive's R/W speeds. My fast 16X BRD has a theoretical transfer rate of 60-65 MB/s (0.5 Gb/s), but on either a USB 3.0 or 2.0 port, I get 10-12 MB/s read of a SL DVD disc - the same as if hooked to an internal SATA port. Having it's own power brick means any USB port 2.0 or higher will work the same. It also means the supplied 100mm cable can be replaced without a problem - I'm using a 2 meter cable now to place ODD under my monitor and reach computer under desk. I could have gone cheaper and bought an adapter to hang on back of the drive, but I think a full enclosure like this is a good investment.

It came securely wrapped, fast delivery and in good conditions. The material feels sturdy enough, metallic. It came with an extra USB 3 cable and 2 more screws. Easy to install, pretty intuitive, you don’t even need the instructions, took me aprox 5 minutes because I was doing it in the floor and in a uncomfortable position. The rubber feet are not that good, they will detach easily. But if you won’t be moving it a lot it’s ok, just ve careful to not remove one by accident. I bought it for a LG WH14NS40, fitting perfectly. Definitely worth buying if you are looking for a disk drive enclosure. I’ll buy another one if I decide to but another disk drive. ————————— Llego bien asegurado, rápido y en buenas condiciones. El material se siente macizo y aguantador, es de metal o un material muy parecido. Me llego con un cable de USB extra y con dos tornillos de más. Fácil de instalar, es muy intuitivo el ensamble. No necesitas el instructivo realmente. Me tomó aproximadamente 5 minutos porque estaba sentado en el piso en una posición incomoda. Las patitas de hule con las que vine se despegan fácilmente, no hay forma de asegurarlas mejor. Si que tengan cuidado de no perderlas o despegarlas una vez ya puestas. Están bien si no planeas mover mucho el lector de lugar, aunque igual, con la mínima resistencia se despegan. Lo compre para un LG WH14NS40, queda perfectamente ajustado y seguro. Completamente recomendable si estás buscando una funda para tu lector de discos. Muy seguramente compre otro ya que me anime a comprar otro lector.

Works great. Quality materials, and looks sharp. I trust Vantec and own many of their products. Installation was trivial, and no drivers were needed. I would buy again.

I believe i had to wait for almost 2-3 weeks to receive this gem. But its very very very difficult to get a Blu-ray Writer, and i m eagerly waiting if i could get it somewhere. But i'll give my serious reviews sooner.

Well impressed with this. You just plug in the SATA cable that comes with the device then slot the drive in until flush. Plug and play USB, works great. Very stylish too, it's made of a nice metallic finish so it's a solid quality product.
