I have the Olympus 40-150mm f2.8 Pro lens but was finding it rather heavy when out and about for over 3 hours. I bought this f4 Pro lens, with the same focal length. It’s half the size, half the weight, and much easier and lighter to carry around. OK it doesn’t have some points, fn button, Tele-converter (which fits the f2.8), and the manual clutch. However, you can use the AF/MF switch on Live View or convert a button on the camera - I use the EM1iii. I found the auto-focus very quick, compared to some Olympus lenses, and this is the first lens produced by OM Systems. Since I bought it a couple of weeks ago, it’s become my main lens.

I use this as a travel and landscape lens for longer walks when weight is a consideration. Build quality is good if not the ultimate in material quality. Focus is fast and accurate. It is, as you no doubt know, very compact and lightweight for the reach available. Normally I don't like collapsing lens designs but I only ever have it compacted when it's in my bag. It's a great match for the OM 3, the optics are fantastic, sharp from f4 to f8 across the frame, with strong colour reproduction and contrast. Close focus is pretty good. It's a, shame not to have the focus clutch and function button as I use them on other lenses. It is not a portrait, sport, indoor or birding lens - but it is a superb walkaround all rounder in conjunction with one of the pro series standard zooms. I got it for the right price, but I'd say it's overly expensive at the RRP. Buy with confidence but don't expect it to perform shallow depth of field or high speed miracles!
