If you are biking will it count calories and distance?

No, the pedometer contains an accelerometer and counts the footsteps by the acceleration up and down as you walk. Biking has no regular motions like walking does and therefore cannot count the calories or distance. For that you need something like a GPS device such as the one built into most smartphones.

Will it count the steps when using an elliptical machine?

it should . it keeps track of any actual movement you perform. from running in place to my bowflex elipitical nachine it has worked. just make sure that the pedimeter is clipped to your work out shorts

Can the distance be reset with removing the battery?

It resets on its own in either 12 hour or 24 hour...which ever you choose...but I imagine it would completely reset if battery is taken out...I don't know for sure...It is great for what I needed...

Has anyone used it on a treadmill while walking (not running)? Does it work?

I do not have a treadmill. I do use it for walking and I could not be happier with this product. Good lick :)
