My Garden’s New Top Secret Agent
Who knew that the key to unbeatable home security was simply harnessing the power of the sun? Enter the Eufy Security S230 SoloCam, not just a guardian of the garden, but a green warrior armed with its very own solar panel cape. This isn’t a security camera; it’s a solar-powered sentinel that’s as eco-friendly as it is vigilant. Right out of the box, the S230 had me wondering if I’d need to call in a team of engineers for installation. But fear not, dear reader, for I was pleasantly surprised. Setting it up was easier than deciding what to watch on Netflix. Before I knew it, my new sun-powered sidekick was mounted and ready, no power cords or battery swaps required. The clarity of the footage is like watching a nature documentary shot in my own backyard. The HD video is so sharp, I half expect David Attenborough to start narrating the nightly antics of the local wildlife. And when the sun goes down? The night vision kicks in, turning my garden into a stage for the midnight escapades of foxes and hedgehogs. But the real game-changer is the built-in solar panel. It’s like having a mini sun god perched outside, eternally devoted to keeping my camera charged and ready for action. The S230 sips sunlight by day and stands guard by night, all while sparing me the hassle of battery anxiety. It’s not just smart; it’s sustainably smart. The two-way audio feature has turned me into the Dr. Doolittle of the neighborhood, conversing with birds by day and deterring would-be intruders by the sheer power of passive-aggressive politeness. “Excuse me, could you not?” has never sounded so authoritative. In an age where charging cables clutter our lives, the Eufy S230 SoloCam stands out as a beacon of convenience and reliability. It’s not merely a security camera; it’s a testament to the marvels of modern technology and environmental stewardship. So, to the Eufy S230, I award five gleaming stars. It’s the solar-powered, eco-conscious guardian that’s as kind to the planet as it is tough on trespassers. In the garden of good and evil, this sun-loving sentinel is a clear force for good.

Easy to Set up
I wanted a bit of peace of mind and didn't want to go the camera door bell route and had been put off previously by the fact that I would need to remember to remove the battery and charge it periodically for most wireless cameras. I have used and trusted the Anker brand for years and was aware of their security branch of the company, Eufy so when I learned that they offered solar powered camera options I thought I'd give this unit a go. Equipment comes nicely presented in the packaging, everything you need to connect to your wireless devices and WiFi is in the box, this isn't much as you'll find the camera unit, a USB-C charge lead and the wall mount packaged with a quick-start guide. There are suitable screws and rawl plugs in there along with a sticky drilling template so it certainly makes life easier. Once you have charged the unit initially it is a simple task to link your camera to an account that you create in the Eufy app, once linked to your account and your WiFi network, you have to find a suitable spot for your camera, the app makes this easier as it gives you a live view of what the camera can see and the strength of the WiFi signal, the bracket is easy to mount to the wall and gives a solid fixing point for the camera and offers loads of adjustment to make sure you can frame the image. Next you can set up if the built-in floodlights come on with movement at night and whether you want a black and white (infrared) image at night or full-colour image (which uses the floodlight), there are several other options including being able to adjust the sensitivity and area being monitored etc, this all being done by the fairly intuitive controls in the app. After a bit of playing around with the app on the first night I have not had to touch the settings, the app notifies you of any person entering the field of view (as set in the app) and records a short video which is sent to your mobile device to view and share if required. I am really pleased with the camera, it does what I need it to and does it simply - I have the peace of mind sought and can freak out my wife if she is gardening nearby by using the live view and built in speaker to talk to her (2 way communication is possible, so you can hear her swear when I make her jump!) You can set off an alarm if you see someone lurking near the camera and so far the battery has remained at 100% since fitting 2 weeks ago, it certainly hasn't been particularly sunny, but you can see from the battery indicator that it still takes a charge in daylight hours. Thinking of adding another camera to the system to offer further coverage of the outside of the house so I can definitely recommend this to anyone looking.

An expensive disappointment!
Many of the good reviews here were probably made not long after the camera was purchased. I was suitably impressed by my first set of Eufy cameras after the first few months of usage. So I decided to purchase several more camera for 3 buildings that I manage. Unfortunately after roughly about a year, pretty much all the cameras began to develop various kinds of malfunction. The worst is that the motion detection works intermittently. It captures nothing in about 25% of the time, no matter how sensitive I make the motion detection. And this particular expensive solar version lost their charge have become useless blocks after about one year.

Bit of a mixed bag - I guess it depends on your needs / expectations
Living in a basement flat, I bought this to provide some extra security. Overall it does the job but there are a couple of caveats that might mean it's not the best option for everyone. THE PROS: The price is very reasonable - especially as most functions you might need are free and don't require an additional subscription. Physical installation was really easy and took only a few minutes. The instructions for doing so are very clear and a drilling template is provided. Picture quality is great and even with what little sunshine we get, it seems to retain its charge well (I did charge it to 100% before installation). The app is pretty good and has plenty of options for customisation. For me, the motion-activated light is a real bonus as it acts as an additional deterrent should someone try to come down the steps at night. THE CONS: Connecting to the WiFi was a pain - it kept failing repeatedly and it was only resolved when I looked online and found the suggestion that I needed to put my phone (used to do the setup) into flight-safe mode. This worked but should be included in the instructions if it is a necessary step. Also, there is (currently at least) no geofencing function - so you cannot set it to arm automatically when you leave home / disarm when you arrive. But the main issue is the time between the camera being triggered and notification being received - which seems to vary from a couple of seconds to a few minutes (even when I'm at home and my phone is on the same WiFi network). I appreciate this isn't intended to serve the same purpose as a doorbell cam, but I guess I was just expecting to know about anyone arriving straight away. I've checked the app and selected the fastest notification option and my broadband / WiFi is a decent speed. There isn't any obvious consistency either - sometimes it notifies almost instantly, others it happens after someone has been and gone. Overall, for the price (and the convenience of not having to have a subscription) I like this camera - but if speed of notification is important to you it might be worth looking at other options.

No issues so far!
Installed this over 2 weeks ago in my garden to cover some blind spots. Installation is easy, just 2 screws into the wall. The picture quality is fine at 2k, nighttime/vision in colour, inbuilt speaker and spotlight. All are good and do what is needed for my purpose. Setup via the eufy app was 'ok' but pairing to the network did take longer than expected. I got this item on sale under £100, and I was so impressed I bought another direct from Eufy. If you're on the market for a reliable, self charging camera to safeguard your home etc, I would happily recommend. I have recently purchased 2 more for my parents and set up theirs. Very happy customer.

Brilliant so far in spring/summer. Will update review in winter
I've mounted this on the side of my house overlooking our driveway and it only gets direct sunlight in the afternoon but so far the battery life has been superb. I put it up in early May 2022 and it's not dropped lower than 98% as of July 2022 (I charged it fully before mounting). I'll be updating this review in winter but in the meantime carry on reading below if you're interested. Picture and sound quality are excellent. I've set it to record the maximum 2 minute clip each time. At the end of each day I select all and delete the clips, literally takes 30 seconds to do but there's tons of storage. I've set the activity zone to cover the driveway so the only footfall is myself and family or the neighbours kids fetching a ball or something. It's made the detection each and every time. I mute all notifications during the day as I work from home. You have 5 duration options to mute notifications up to a maximum of 12 hours. My main reason for having this is to keep an eye on the cars on the driveway at night. Picture quality at night is also excellent. Whenever a detection is made the spotlight is set to automatically turn on brightening up the area. All in all this an excellent piece of kit if you don't want to wire up a security camera, not have to worry about having somewhere to store footage and charge device.

Works quite well but the solar charging is disapointing.
It might charge in two hours in Arizona during the summer but it doesn't charge in one whole day in south West England. Even on sunny days it looses two or three percent of it's charge per day. It won't connect to my base unit but works quite well when connected directly to the app. The motion detection is about the same as my much older Eufy cameras. The spotlight works okay but only when selecting colour night vision. It's quite good, but it doesn't live up to the claims. I'm glad I bought it on special offer because I don't think it's worth the full price.

The best one yet
Recently bought it after returning another one from another brand wich was simpy trash. So far is installed for 4 days but already i can say that i am happy with it,yes you pay more than the rest of them but is well worth it comparing to the other cheaper ones.the quality of the video is very good even in the night mode, normal one or the colour one the flah light from the camera is very bright and the motion detection is on point without false alarms. The other important point that surprised me was the battery, enev though is was almost all the time cloudy it still managed to recharge enought for the battery not to drop in these 4 days wich is surprising for me,the last one i had went from 100%to 0% in 10 days so yes a big plus. Give it a try if you want something good Edit,10 months later I had to charge it for the first time wich is surprisingly good for a wireless camera. In this months didn’t have any problems at all,it worked perfectly

Easy and Convenient
Easy to install, easy to configure, crystal clear 2k video. Audio quality is good. Don’t have to worry about removing the camera to charge at all. Solar ensures that the battery stays fully charged. Took me 10min to install and configure.
