UPDATE: Changing to 5 stars. I tried the HDMI cable on another monitor and it works perfectly. So it's something with my old monitor. The Usb/power/ethernet all work great. However, when using the HDMI to connect to my external monitor, the picture quality is really terrible. I bought a separate VGA-USBC adapter and it looks way better. Bummer - now I have to carry around two adapters instead of just this one.

Compact with wide selection of ports. HDMI port will occasionally lose image.

So far so good!!!! I used to have an annoying flickering problem with the original Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter.... I switched to the Miaim multiport and all my problems solved.... No more flickering, an extra port (ethernet) and cheaper!!

Only the USB works when connected to a new Dell XPS 15 (9560) even after updating...

This adapter is the modern equivalent of those old clunky laptop docking stations. When you sit down at your desk, you plug in just one cable to connect your laptop to your display, keyboard, mouse, Ethernet and power. Only now it's one tiny, reversible USB-C plug instead of a big connector. It works with any USB-C laptop so you don't have to throw it away when you upgrade. And it's cheap enough to buy one for work, one for home, and a third to carry with you in place of all those USB-C-to-whatever dongles. I've been using this adapter for a few weeks with a Macbook Pro. One glitch is that occasionally the Ethernet device does not work when I first plug the adapter into the laptop--the link lights flash but the network interface remains inactive. Briefly unplugging the power cable from the adapter gets it working again. Another flaw is that the adapter delivers a maximum of about 60 watts of power to the laptop. This causes the laptop to charge more slowly than it would when powered directly from the AC power adapter. Despite these shortcomings, this is an essential bit of gear for a USB-C laptop.

So far, it has worked well (4k in multiple displays) with my Lenovo Yoga 720 15IKB. As long as you have good HDMI cables there seems to be no issues. I'm ordering another one.

Works well

Modern consumer technology tends to sort people into camps - PC or Mac, iOS or Android, PS4 or Xbox. But there's another kind of sorting based on the connector technology required by our devices. Recently I've upgraded both my phone (to a Nexus 6P) and laptop (Apple 12" MacBook), both of which use USB-C for connectivity and power. This has instantly rendered obsolete a wide range of supporting devices, which used old-school USB or Thunderbolt connectors. So I'm in the process of replacing some of them. I've already reviewed a couple of desk-top solutions: the StarTech.com USB C Dual-Monitor Docking Station for Laptops - MST & Power Delivery (MST30C2DPPD) and Kensington SD4600P USB-C Docking Station with Power Delivery Charging for 2015/2016 MacBook Retina 12", Dell XPS 13" 9350/XPS 15" 9550, Dell Precision 5510 (K38231WW) . These are fine, but a bit bulky for travel, so I need something more portable. Apple's own HDMI/USB-B/USB-C is over-priced (and flakey); it also means that I have to carry a separate USB-C/Ethernet dongle. I've tried a couple of cheap but clumsy devices which didn't really work. (Lots of HDMI flicker.) And then I received a Twitter DM from a vendor who had seen my earlier reviews. No discount or other incentive, just a heads-up. I read about it, the price was right, so I bought one. I've used it with my MacBook on a couple of trips now, and it works perfectly.
