A Northern Christmas

This little book is taken mostly from a longer book by Rockwell Kent. Even so, it is a delightful, little book which has become part of my Christmas time tradition. I have both this and the longer book, Wilderness: A Journal of Quiet Adventure in Alaska.The enthusiastic writing of Kent along with his beautiful illustrations make for a quick, yet contemplative read. It is a rare treat to find an author/illustrator of such quality. This book can add joy and rustic beauty to your Christmas as it transports the reader to another time and place of over 100 years ago (1918-1919). The simple Christmas of Kent, his son, and their neighbor reminds us of the wonder we can have without all the expense and show which all too many expect of themselves or their families.The illustrations and typeface combine to create a simple, impressive, nostalgic, and Christmas seasonally appropriate book for one to read and share year after year around the holiday.This has grown to be one of my favorite books.

Putnam's Sons, New York."---This is an accurate statement printed on the last page of this book; I wish I had known this before buying.It is also worth noting that since this book is quite small, the illustrations taken from Wilderness are here reproduced in a proportionately smaller size (approximately 50% scale).

I gifted copies of this book to my Grandsons when they were small. I usually read it every Christmas but left my copy in Alaska this year. Was pleased to find it in a Kindle edition. Our family cabin is located next to the Rockwell cabin site.

Heartwarming story. An easy read that will make you feel toasty inside. Also accompanied bye amazing prints by Rockwell Kent, one of my all-time favourite illustrators.
