Surprising good "cheap flute". Not a "starter flute" for children though.
This is an INTERMEDIATE flute, with a LOW B foot, and OPEN HOLES and most of the bells and whistles expected and wanted. PROS: - It's a really nice sounding flute! - Packaging and case are nice. Comes with all the basics. You do have to remove some little red wedges that keep the mechanics/keys in place during shipping, but it's not hard. - It's pretty! I really like the engravings and decorations. Many complained that the engraving on the lip plate is off center, but actually it is exactly where I rest my lip to line up my embouchure to the air hole/riser. Quirks / CONS: - I did have some of the springs that had popped off their pegs during shipping and had to adjust a couple of the keys that got mildly misaligned during the whole ordeal that shipping is. A quick search of YouTube and that was taken care of in no time. Anyone that has had a flute will already know how to do most of that. - There is a period of "breaking in" / getting to know you phase, but that is to be expected with any new instrument. - The alloy that this is made of is a bit temperamental about pitch and tone if there are a lot of temperature fluctuations. It seems happiest and most stable around 75 - 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Some days are just finger workout days, and that's really not a bad thing. My story: I always wanted to play the flute but never had the opportunity/time when I was younger but life opened up to a point where I had the time to learn. I was hesitant to buy a used flute after the pandemic. I also didn't want to spend almost $1K for a new "name brand" flute and be stuck with it if I decided that it wasn't for me. After a lot of research I found this one. It was in my "hobby starter" budget, and had all the features I would need/want to learn the flute well, and if I messed it up or quit, I wouldn't feel bad about turning it into a lamp or something. I also decided on getting the intermediate model so that if I did decide to stick with learning the flute, that I would have the option to keep playing and learning while I saved up for the upgrade w/o hitting that wall. And when I did get the new flute I would have this one to use as a back up or travel flute. After a year, I am still playing. I leave it out most of the time on an instrument stand so that reminds me to play, or pick it up and practice finger movements. My SO calls it the silver fidget widget. ๐ It's still pretty. I still love it. I still don't think it's something for an 8 year old first time player. Who I think would be happy with this model: -It would definitely make a nice instrument for someone in junior high or high school on a budget. -Someone wanting something with a little bling to it. -Someone that plays outdoors, or in pubs where theft or damage might be an issue. -Someone that wants to restart the flute, or an adult that wants to learn.

Pro's and Con's for the Flute
It sounds great, the flute looks great, and the case is good. I accidentally dropped it the flute still works (I dropped it when it was still in case). I have had mine for about a month now and it sounds like a $1000 flute for a quarter of the price. The items that come with the flute are ok. The hole plugs are strong and they don't leak. The gloves and the tuning rod is cheap, the gloves are thin and they get caught on the diamond engravings on the edges of the flute, the tuning rod is plastic and when i went to tune the head joint, I saw it was a little sharp, the only issue is, you cannot use that rod because it WILL break due to it being plastic. The rag, I use to swab and I use a hanker chief to clean it. Tip: Make sure you do research to see if you have a few of the major parts for the flute. Where I live, if my flute gets damaged in any way and it is not a screw or pad, I would need to ship it because my 3 instrument repair shops do NOT have parts for a "Split E Flute." For people that do not know what a "Split E" for, it is to make the high "E" not crack when doing octaves from E to E, and it is very useful if you try out for High School Region.

Very good and in tune
This flute is probably the best flute I've had. It's suprisingly in tune which is a rarity with the cheap flutes, plays really well out of the box and it's worth the money spent on it.

VERY POWERFUL FLUTE
I am giving this flute a 4 star review because I was sent a used return when I paid for a new flute. I returned it for a replacement. I was nervous about spending just $200 on a flute but, I'M GLAD I DID! The sound of this flute is comparable to the Pearl Flutes 525 Series Intermediate Flute! I prefer this flute to that one. They sound almost identical except this flute has so much more power than the Pearl. It's crazy how a $200 flute can beat a $900 one! I was just gonna have this flute as a backup. Now this is my main flute I use. Because of the material being nickel with silver plating, this flute plays LOUD. I can go from piano to fortississimo super fast. It's response is that amazing. Also, it responds extremely well to tonguing. Everything is so crystal clear and CRISP! Oh and the lower register... This flute can sing. It's so dark and rich. Especially the low D. The higher register is like, IN YOUR FACE. There is so much power! (I know I keep saying it) You can push this flute so far without over blowing. Also you can pull back so much. This flute makes crescendos and decrescendos so easy. My peers in the wind ensemble I play in were astonished when they heard the freakishly powerful and beautiful tone I can produce on this flute. This flute would be perfect for someone who is in a marching band. Trust me, you will be heard! ;)

Beware...
Not totally bad, but I find the flute uncomfortable to hold and that the Left thumb key digs into your thumb. The tone is raspy and it sounds like a small leak could be somewhere. I have other flutes that don't have this problem. I would not recommend this flute, though functionally, it works.

Very nice and plays well.
I am a professional musician. I was curious and ordered this. A happy surprise when it arrived. I am not sure how it will hold up over time, but it looks lovely and plays very well (as well as many brands of more expensive flutes). Ethical questions to ask, given the affordability, would be labor practices, environmental practices (plating chemicals, sourcing of materials, etc.) and if the quality is consistent (if someone else ordered one). The flute I received was well padded, in adjustment, and is really a cheery little flute. Ideal for a student, professional doubler, or hobby player of any age.

You should buy
Everyone loves how pretty it is and that it has a third foot joint key! Sounds pretty and no bad pitches. Easy to play and the buttons press down nicely. If the rubber pads get stuck too far down for the open/closed keys, you can just stick a pencil down there do they fall into the flute and then dump it into your hand.

DO NOT BUY
Honestly ... this flute was perfect when I got it. Then I kept playing it and it was just FALLING APART! If I could I wish I never got it. I had to glue the rubber stop for the pinkey back on because it just fell off. Now after 8 years of playing the flute I can't play certain note .. it just won't come out. Very dissatisfied with this purchase.
