Takes a little more effort than soak-n-fluff, but it works very well and is worth it.
This stuff is good enough that I bought it twice after. Somewhat easy to use--the plastic bag tends to fold in on itself while you're putting the water in, and you really have to break up the little brick or else it'll take hours of soaking (well, maybe, I didn't wait) to wet through. It smells very nice and provided an excellent seed starting medium. I got nearly 100% germination using it, and one brick made more than enough soil for many tray cells. I'm now using it, along with some organic fertilizer, to take the seedlings into bigger pots, and so far the seedlings are taking the transfer well. I'll use it again next season.

NICE SEED STARTER
I HAD MY DOUBTS THIS WOULD SWELL UP TO BE AS MUCH AS THEY SAID BUT IT DID. I ACTUALLY GOT 2 'BRICKS' AND TESTED THE WITH COLD AND HOT (JUST TAP WATER HOT) AND THE HOT ONE SWELLS UP AND IS EASIER TO LOOSEN THAN THE OTHER. SINCE I AM USING THIS NOT ONLY TO START SEEDS BUT GROW THEM TO FAIRLY LARGE PLANTS I AM MIXING IT WITH SOME ORGANIC SOIL AND WORM CASINGS. MAKES A RICH BUT AIRY SOIL THAT SHOULD BE JUST WHAT I WANT FOR A GOOD EARLY START TO MY GARDEN AS WELL AS THE PLANTS I AM STARTING FOR FOLKS EASTER PRESENTS. VERY LIGHT WHEN IT ARRIVES AND IN THIS BRICK LOOKING SHAPE - GETS HEAVIER WHEN WATER IS ADDED (OF COURSE) BUT STILL LIGHTER THAN THE BAGS OF SOIL YOU BUY IN STORES SO EASY TO LIFT, AND MOVE AROUND. I DO RECOMMEND THIS.

Great Stuff!!!
Super clean and convenient! Bought for use on a houseplant but once I hydrated it and saw how nice it was, I ended up using additional blocks as seed starting medium. I expect it to work much better than my traditional dirt. I noticed using a bit less water than directed made for a fluffier consistency and it overflowed the bag once it was worked. Previous reviewers noting it didn't fill the bag may have over hydrated. Update: As a seed starting medium its superb! My germination rate was almost 100 percent, even using left over seeds from last year. Seeds started the same day in regular potting soil with fertilizer are lagging far behind and did not germinate as well. Ordering more.

My plants seem to love this stuff
I've been growing with this non-soil medium for a few months now and have a few things to share. 1. I needed two bricks for a 5-gallon planter, so the advertised 10-quarts per brick seems accurate. 2. This product contains no usable nutrients, so be prepared to fertilize from the beginning with not only NPK fertilizers but also micro nutrients. I had some issues with CAL/MAG deficiency that weren't being addressed by my main fertilizer, and perhaps some others that I'm still trying to diagnose. 3. Versus traditional potting soil, this product retains water remarkably well. While my other pots get very light 24 hours after watering, the pots with this product in them are still heavy with moisture. Digging down into the fibers, they are damp but not soggy. 4. The plants seem to love it, everything I'm growing in it is surging in spite of the nutrient deficiencies I had. 5. It's reusable, which I plan to test out next season. So far I'm very happy with the product and plan to continue using it over potting soil. I think my plants will thrive in it once I get the nutrient levels properly adjusted.

Best soil medium Iโve used so far.
I am so pleasantly surprised with this product. I struggle with keeping succulents alive due to overwatering and after reading that it is nearly impossible to overwater coco coir due to the aeration, I figured I would give it a shot. I mixed the entire brick (which filled up almost an entire 5 gallon bucket once water was added) with an 8 quart bag of potting soil and repotted all of my houseplants in it. I already have seen a huge change in my Jade and succulents; the leaves that had fallen off are now growing huge new roots and everything is doing well. I will be ordering more of these to keep in the garden shed!

I've had other products that expand. Much easier time ...
I've had other products that expand. Much easier time decompressing and expanding. This was tough, I really had to work it with my hands. I added the water as instructed and waited. First round still a block, 2nd still hard and some ability to break off. Third round easier. Struggled and splattered some with getting the chunk to do its magic. I thought it was going to be 10 individual hunks and it is one large one. Not sure I will buy again, I'll see how plants do.

A Gardener's MUST HAVE
I love this product I have bought it several times over, it is excellent for bonsais vegetables anything you're starting indoors to transfer outdoors.... I think it's a great value for the money and I've had no problems whatsoever with it!!! From now on it will be my normal soil that I used to start any plant that I grow! My bonsais do exceptionally well in it, ALL plants and vegetables I have grown into have done great!! Try it you will be a believer too!!

Coconut fibers, NOT the perfect potting soil. Not even soil
Don't be fooled. The package clearly says that it contains no fertilizer or nutrients. It's coconut fibers, NOT potting soil. I'm sending it right back. Update: Here is the seller's response to my review. Too bad the advertisement doesn't refer to this product as a "medium for growing plants," or, "fiber soil," because that would actually be an honest description. Again, this product is not potting soil. From the seller: "Despite what you think potting soil is, the definition varies greatly as do its ingredients / components. But almost always it contains no actual soil at all as its too heavy for potted plants and does not need to contain fertilizer . The best description is that itโs a medium for growing plants in. This fiber soil just happens to be an ideal growing medium for growing plants because of its benefits over peat related potting mixes"
