will the wand work at both universal studios Hollywood as well?

In universal, yes it will perfectly work as it is an interactive wand. But, in Hollywood there is no Harry Potter themed areas at all.

I have 3 boys under 8 when we bought it and they all used it and it didn't break so I would say no.

Does the wand need to be activated for $8 additional at the parj?

No it does not need to be activated. There was a problem with this one not working and the park fixed it for free. No issues at all.

Does it light up? Or can it only be used in the park?

No, it won't light up. The wand can only be used at the park
