Gibson's Learn & Master Guitar Boxed Dvd/CD Set Legacy Of Learning

I purchased what I thought was a used set of this series of lessons only to find 3 dvd's in a manilla envelope. What I received was the first 6 lessons. The seller did refund my purchase and let me keep the dvd's. Also be advised there are two versions of this program one is the standard and the other is the expanded version. The picture may not indicate this clearly and you may see the expanded edition and receive the standard edition. The std. edition is 10 dvd's and 5 jam cds After two unsuccessful efforts to buy this set of lessons used and finding the market flooded with bogus merchandise containing a mere three dvd's, I ordered a NEW set of 10 dvd's and 5 jam cd's from AMAZON. The lesson I learned is do not buy this used under any circumstances unless you know who you are buying it and it does indeed contain all the dvd's, cd's and the book in a BOXED SET. Now onto the reality of learning how to play the guitar properly: This lesson series will fill that requirement and in order to learn and master the guitar it will require considerable time on your part via this set of lessons. It is like having a personal instructor that you can go back and replay the dvd's over and over. You will not learn how to play the guitar in a few days or weeks. It will be a slow process but you will be rewarded for your efforts. I am only on lesson #2 and I am putting in about a half hour per day. I may be slower than most people and the fact that I am also having to learn how to read music may also be slowing me down. The instructor gives you plenty of encouragement and tells you a realistic time frame it will take to master each step and to not get discouraged. Have fun and work at your pace on this lesson series. It is in my opinion better than having a personal teacher with questionable credentials. Mr. Krenz knows his stuff and how to teach with dvd's and the lesson materials. It is worth the price v. a private instructor. Gibson has put together a very credible lesson series for the beginner who wants to learn how to do more than strum a few chords. Again, don't mess with a used set of this material unless you know who you are dealing with and what materials will be sent to you if you do buy this as a used set. Two efforts on my part resulted in two disputed charges on my credit card. The upside of this experience was that AMEX and Amazon resolved the dispute quickly and in my favor.

Excellent product. The learning is extremely in-depth, and the beauty of a DVD-based lesson is you can pause, replay, etc., as needed. The website for this system has a vibrant forum of people also working through the course. I really love that this course includes music reading, which many cheaper/free online courses do not include. There seems to be more depth here than what you can find online. Many people who have played a guitar for a month even without any lessons at all will breeze through the first session, but will find out this course's true value with the second: learning to read music. So many other courses totally forego that important subject. So many YouTube teachers do a quick lesson on what is session 1 in this book, then skip all the way to what is session 5 in this course, in the space of a 10 minute YouTube video. To me, learning to read and relate those notes to guitar is important, and I am so thankful that it is covered in great detail in this book. One thing I learned in college is not everyone is qualified to teach just because they're an expert on a particular subject. Anyone who's spent any length of time on YouTube looking at guitar beginner lessons can certainly attest to that as well. The teacher in this system is certainly qualified to teach. The videos are expertly edited and produced, and the accompaniment materials (bonus CDs, lesson book) are top notch. This isn't a cheap kit, but it's less expensive than one-on-one lessons with a professional, and you get your money's worth with it compared to free YouTube lessons and $20 songbooks for beginner guitarists. I should mention the obvious and say that this course is not a replacement for practice and determination. People have learned guitar for generations without any help, and this is just one more tool available to new players. I've only just started and already I've exceeded the skills I learned with 6 months of self learning with YouTube videos and beginner's books from YouTubers who have published books (one in particular has an English accent).

After purchasing this 15-disc standard edition I discovered apparently this may no longer be available new and as it has been replaced by a 25-disc edition for just a little more $. After investing ~ $70 (including shipping) for this pre-owned version I discovered the new version was available over the holidays for $19 more ($89) plus shipping). In any case so far I've been satisfied with the quality and content. Using DVDs makes it easier to pause, back up or advance than online or youtube videos and of course internet access and wifi are unnecessary. I also believe the downloadable (.pdf) workshop manual includes all the exercises covered by the additional 10 workshop dvds. As noted by other purchasers the .pdf includes over a hundred pages which can be time-consuming and somewhat expensive to print a hard copy...especially if you want it in color. Steve Krenz is a good teacher and offers a lot of encouragement.

I purchased a used guitar about 20+ years ago and over the years tried several instructional books, online tutorials, etc... and always grew frustrated because I never could seem to get the hang of playing and felt like playing the guitar must just be something that I'm not cut out to do. I should also add that with a career and so many other responsibilities that come with someone in their 40s paying for and going to lessons just wasn't practical. So anyway I came across this package on Amazon and after reading the reviews I decided to give it a shot. Like one reviewer wrote, this is much less expensive than lessons would be to take you to the level that this instructional will lead you to. So as for my review... This is fantastic. Lesson one is a series of finger exercises and if you will diligently practice those for 15 - 30 minutes a day for a couple of weeks you will be amazed at your progress. Steve is an amazing teacher and after the lesson he has what is called a workshop where he practices along with you at a very comfortable pace. The 2nd lesson he actually teaches you to read music. This sounds daunting but his teaching coupled with the workbook actually makes it somewhat simple. I loved this because I have to say you feel pretty smart being able to read music, and then in that same 2nd session you learn keys on the 1st 2 strings which allow you to start playing a few songs. As other reviewers have written, this product for it's price will teach you more than 3-4 years of private lessons would that could cost you thousands. Bottom line is that I can't say enough about this product and I'm so thankful I purchased it. If you really want to learn to play guitar and will commit to practicing just a little bit each day this product will deliver everything that you could hope for.

Learning guitar has always been my dream. This is way worth the money and time! I was searching in the android market in my cell phone and came across a FREE Gibson Learn and Master Guitar app! I downloaded it and watched a few of the trial tutorial videos and they became very helpful! I had to watch and learn more so I bought the whole set! I still keep the app because it features a accurate tuner, chord chart and a metronome! No need to hire a tutor if you purchased these dvds! Very easy lessons you can watch as many times as needed with practice cds! I bought this set almost 2 months ago and have already learned half of the book and can play scales, some chords and a few songs! I did find a few typos in the book ( such as sheet music does not match tabs in a few of the exercises). But all in all this box set is great and if the time and effort is put into it you can learn a lot in a short amount of time, along with a lot of helpful tips, history and information about the guitar! I've been practicing a couple hours everyday and some days I don't want to put my guitar down! Thank you Gibson learn and master, you are helping me easily accoplish my dream!

I bought this gift as a Christmas present for my significant other. He has wanted to learn the guitar for years now, but his hectic schedule keeps him from taking actual lessons. I ordered this as a last minute gift decision and never in a million years thought it would arrive on time to be wrapped and under the tree Christmas morning, but I was wrong! The prompt shipping ensured it reached us in no time at all. My other half absolutely loves how easy it is to utilize and how it explains every single aspect of playing the guitar. The DVD set with it is also such a wonderful tool for learning. After years of fiddling around and picking at strings, he is now well on his way to playing! When nothing else worked, this did! It is also fantastic because, instead of trying to stick to a schedule with an instructor or teacher, he has the ability to do things on his own time and learn at his own pace. The box is also absolutely beautiful and fits perfectly on my bookshelf for simple storage. I would definitely recommend this product.

I am on Session two right now and I just love this set. The box is nice and sturdy and it comes with a lesson book, the cd's and two picks which was nice. The $$ was definitely worth it. I had tried eMedia Guitar method deluxe previously and it was too self independent. I love the amount of video and how Gibson walks through and explains exercises. I have never played Guitar, though, I did play 3 years of piano. Now at fifteen, this is giving me a solid foundation as a beginner guitar player. I have purchused the expanded edition which is about $50 more. I would suggest not to buy expanded if your fine being fairly independant away from the instruction. My only critique is the video could be a bit higher-res. The website definitely shows a higher-res demonstration video. Overall I love Gibson's Learn and Master Guitar

I bought this course almost ten years ago, and I still think it’s the best tool out there for a beginning to intermediate player to solidify and grow guitar skills. This is not a course where you memorize a few flashy licks and call yourself a player. This is the RIGHT way to learn. If you are a complete beginner, take off on your guitar journey with this course. There are none better. If you aren’t a total beginner but have hit a wall or a plateau in your playing, this will help you seal the gaps and keep moving forward. There’s a great online community that the author Steve Krenz maintains with great people to interact with as well. This isn’t just the best way to advance on guitar but it can become a community for you too. Can not recommend this highly enough!

This is a brilliant resource of book, DVD's to watch & play along with & CD jam-along tracks to ensure you play at the right tempo. I endured 18 months of lessons at a local Yamaha school and didn't learn any of the items in the first 4 chapters! The standard edition is very good but I would recommend the extended version if you can stretch the budget. The bonus resource video play-alongs are gratis in the extended version. Whilst you can download the PDF printable resources off the Gibson website you miss out on the bonus videos and extra practice. Standard edition to be good; Extended edition to be better! I really like the extra features too with a tour of the Gibson factory being a highlight. If you want to be able to read music, play guitar fast and truly master this instrument there is no better resource for the beginner. Ensure you have a metronome to hand to check your consistency...guessing you are playing to time just won't cut it when you play with other musicians!
