Does the factory screen protector need to be removed to apply this product?

Don't remove the factory protector! It's actually the top of the internal screen and holds the screen together.

Is this glass screen protector like the tempered glass screen protector?

This product tore the screen off of my flip phone when I took it off to put a new one on. The adhesive used on this protector is not good for these screens. The flips screen is made of a different material and because of this can be damaged very easily. I had to have samsung replace my screen.

Is it for front and back of phone?

The case goes on the back of the phone.

is there a piece that covers the hinge area?

No. It wouldn't be able to fold close if it did. I have not had any problems with this case. Stays on with no problem because of the stripe of tape.
