Best Hinge Money Can Buy
Ok - that title might be a bit over the top - but this is truly a great hinge. I can provide a 4 year impartial review on 20 doors - these hinges are spectacular. In 4 years, I have not heard one sound (pop, click, squeak, etc.). I just ordered 6 more sets to replace contractor installed hinges on an addition done in the past year. The current steel hinges are rubbing, make noises when opening/closing, etc. I know with 100% certainty that these solid brass hinges will make that a thing of the past. Now - the pins. The frustration expressed in the reviews is true and deserved. The internals of these hinges are filled with some type of grease (or "goop") that does not want to let that pin go. That being said, doors move with ease (and quietly). I was able to get the pins out by using a hammer and punch - it wasn't easy, but they did come out. My recommendation, work from the bottom of the hinge, do not try to pry the pin out from the top. I saw another reviewer suggested heating it slightly with a hair dryer - I believe that would be an excellent suggestion - and I intend to try that on my next installation. One item is that if these hinges are installed in a bathroom (high humidity) area, the "goop" will come out slightly over time (and require a little bit of very focused cleaning to remove). That being said, this is very minor and is not an ongoing event and only occurred on 2 of the 20 doors. One item to note: In cases where I placed a door stop on the upper hinge, I found that the pin was actually a tad to short after putting the stop in (the pin missed the lowest hinge section). I was able to work around this by using a slightly longer pin from a "cheaper" steel hinge that was slightly longer. In doing so, I have never had an issue and visually - unless you would really look, you can't notice the pin is slightly different. As you read the mixed reviews - the truth is - I understand the frustration expressed by some. That said, the time (and care) invested in the installation should pay off ten fold in the years to come. I hope this review helps.UPDATE (12/17/2012): I just did 7 doors in my house, and I used the suggestion about using a hair dryer to heat up the hinge. I applied heat for about 15-30 seconds, worked the hinge a few times, used a punch on the bottom. Within one or two light strikes the pin came out far enough to pull out the rest of the way by hand. I will be the first to tell you that without the heat, they are more difficult, but with a little heat they are a piece of cake.

Delivers a clean make-over for my older home
I updated my entire house from polished brass to brushed nickel for door knobs and hinges. These are very high quality, perfect finish, and perfectly fit into the existing door frame without any modifaction. They perfectly match the schlage door knob finish. The house looks 10 years younger.A word of warning, it is extremely difficult to remove the hinge pin for the installation of a hinge door stop. After struggling with one for 20 minutes, I finally was able to get it removed (it destroyed my screwdriver in the process). I even attempted to pull the hinge pin out before i installed it on the door, ruined another screw driver. I tried nails to serve as a push-pin, and the nails bent. I now am using door stops that attach to the basebards, instead of hinge - pin door stops. For this reason, I only give it 4 stars.

Great buy! Love the new clean, modern look.
Very easy to install. Fit opening of replaced hardware perfectly. Did not remove pins. Removed old center hinge, slipped in new one, screwed into frame first, then door. Followed with bottom hinge, then top. Very fast install for a little 75 year-old lady, and works perfectly. Not sure why some complained about removing pins unless new installation. For replacing old brass, study the door, and buy hardware that has the same configuration to make the job easy. I'm replacing brass knobs with levers all in "satin nickel" to prepare for my old, old age.

The hinge pin is not removable.
I called Schlage after trying to remove the pin and was told that the pin is not removable on this product. That, of course, makes hanging the door far more difficult than it needs to be. I asked why they made sucha hinge and did not get an answer. I would not buy this again.

The pin is non-removable
The good: Great looking hinges, operate smoothly, high quality screws are very hard - won't strip out even when installing with a drill or impact driver. The bad: The pin is non-removable, and they're very expensiveI bought these hinges for thirteen doors about a year ago from one of the big box home centers. I installed all the hinges along with all new Schlage locksets / doorknobs in order to update the outdated look of the old bright brass hardware. Having had great luck w/ Schlage locks and knobs before (especially compared to Kwikset), I didn't mind paying the high price b/c I know Schlage makes good products.Fast forward about a year... Last week I had to take down a door to plane the top edge - it was rubbing. Lo and behold, trying to remove the pin with a small hammer from the underside, I bent two large nails. The pins aren't removable! Who wants an interior door hinge with non-removable pins? I had to completely unscrew the hinges from the door frame just to remove the door.I'd recommend these hinges ONLY for an out-swing exterior door since a non-removable pin is perfect for that application, but I wish I'd known that when I bought these. That's why I'm writing this review.Lastly, these are expensive. I should have looked on Amazon first. If you search amazon for interior hinges, you'll find them much cheaper, with removable hinges. If I could do it again, I'd have checked Amazon first.Still love the Schlage locksets though -- much better than Kwikset. Again, good product, but should have clearly stated somewhere on the packaging -- or on this site -- that the pins aren't removable.

Solid Hinges
These are high quality hinges! Even the screws that come with them are very nice, and of course match the finish of the hinge itself. I installed these on 13 doors in my home, they look great and perform perfectly.
