Menopause doesn’t have to be the end of you kicking ass. The renowned author of Roar presents a comprehensive and customizable physiology-based guide to peak performance for active women approaching or experiencing menopause. For active women, menopause hits hard. Overnight, your body doesn’t feel like the one you know and love anymore—you’re battling new symptoms, might be gaining weight, losing endurance and strength, or taking longer to bounce back from workouts that used to be easy. The things that have always kept you fit and healthy just seem to stop working the way they used to. But menopause doesn’t have to be the end of you excelling at the gym, on the trail, or wherever you work out. Once you understand your physiology, you can work with it—not against it—to optimize your performance. In Next Level , renowned exercise and nutrition scientist Dr. Stacy Sims shares case studies from women she has coached through this transition and teaches you: • the underlying causes of menopause • how to minimize the hormonal fluctuations that cause bloating, fatigue, night sweats, and other common symptoms of perimenopause and menopause • when you should seek medical intervention for your menopausal symptoms—and how to confidently communicate with your doctor to ensure you’re getting the best care • different modalities, from hormone therapy and nonhormone supplements to pelvic floor therapy and strength training, to help maximize your fitness and performance • exercise routines and fueling strategies, including meal plans and macronutrient planning charts, that you can customize to best suit your unique needs during menopause • and much more! A comprehensive, science-backed framework for your menopause action plan, this is the ultimate guide for navigating the Next Level . Dr Stacey sims is the real deal
Dr. Stacey Sims is a treasure, particularly for any woman beginning or done with menopause. Her philosophy of weight training and nutritional guidance is unbeatable and the best of all it is absolutely all backed by science I have gotten so much stronger and I have lost weight without even trying since I read this book and started taking her advice to Hart. I highly recommend reading this book you can also listen to her. She’s done a couple of podcast with Mel Robbins and if you don’t want to buy the book yet that’s a really good place to start. She’s also got a really nice website full of helpful hints and tips and courses and things.

A great resource
This book is such a great resource. I first had the audiobook and liked it so much I bought the paperback. I am a 59 y/o woman well into menopause so some chapters were geared toward perimenopause or just entering menopause (as people generally view it, not necessarily the scientific/medical parameters) but most of it has been very relevant and useful. It’s a very comprehensive guide to health and wellness.

I believe some misinformation on pelvic floor.
With approximately 1 in 5 women having some level of pelvic floor dysfunction and having a cystocele and rectocele with no issues of ever wetting myself (as discussed in the book), I want to say that, based on my visits to professional pelvic floor physiotherapists, she gives the same wrong about the kegels we have been given for decades, and THAT bad advice is what has perpetuated a lot of our problems. Have a couple of kids and a full hysterectomy and you may know what I mean. Do some research and find that any exercise that loads the unprepared pelvic floor is going to wreak havoc. Planks are one of them. I can tighten up with the best of them, the problem with these exercises done this way is they overtighten the pelvic floor preventing its relaxation. My problem is not being able to fully relax that floor. I was instructed the same way 40 years ago. Sex pain? Constipation? Weak stream? See an actual PT who can use biofeedback and instruction to teach you the proper way to do kegels it is some of the best money you can spend. In the meanwhile, I absolutely get the value of weight training as a postmenopausal woman but it needs to be in a way that does not put extra pressure on that floor and I am sure there are ways to do that and I will take what I can. I do believe the comment said it best that this book is better to serve fit people going into menopause and not an older person who wants to salvage as much as possible and *does* believe that an appropriate heavy weight training regimen will do the job (along with HITT aerobics). I will just have to figure out a way to get there on my own.

Great at Explaining the Menopause Change
This is a great read for any perimenopausal or menopause person looking to understand what’s happening with your hormones during this stage in your life as well as how to use that information to get your body to be strong. Has great info for women regarding intermittent fasting and how women’s bodies don’t respond like their male counterparts. Highly recommended.

Best book on menopause out there - it is really up to date and the science is accurate
Best most fully comprehensive book on menopause that I have read. (which is a lot) All of the science is correct because I double checked (unlike so many other menopause books.) This book includes every aspect of menopause from explanation of hormones, adaptogens (natural supplements that really safely support periomenopause), muscle and bone preservation, digestive microbiome, calcium, supplements and bioavailability. Basically everything you need to know. You might not want to do heavy training or lift weights but the explanations of every aspect of how everything in the body is linked and affected by menopause. is absolutely brilliant. It's easy to read and really useful. I can't say enough how much I love this book.
