This is a great enclosure. It looks nice and it's easy to install the drive. Once that's done it's ready to go, and it works very well. The activity light is a plus, as well. My only real complaint is that there is nothing with which to hold the drive tightly into the connector at the end. With other enclosures I've tried there has been a small, firm piece of foam at the end opposite the drive connection. This keeps the drive "pushed" snugly into the connector at the other end. Then, of course, you can use the foam that comes with the kit to keep the drive from moving up and down within the case. I used the thick piece, and I attached it to the top face of the drive itself. I had to use a credit card to hold the foam down as I was sliding the cover back on so that the cover clip didn't catch and tear the foam, but it worked well, and the drive is snugly in place. I worry a little about heat, but it should be fine.For the issue I mentioned, I used a piece of foam weatherstripping, cut to size. The sticky side to the plastic of the case, of course, and it holds the drive firmly forward and into the connector. The space is about 1/8", which is enough that the drive would wiggle out of the connector, and this firm foam will keep it from doing so.Overall, this is a very good enclosure, and to be able to turn an unused drive into a usable one for such a small price is very nice. I would definitely recommend this case to others, with the added caveat to be careful about the 1/8' space at the end of the drive.

Inexpensive solution to making an old hard drive useful again. Easy to use and works as intended.

I have bought this item 12 times now in the last 4 years. I have updated many old laptops from HDDs to SSDs. If the old HDD is good and 500GB or larger, I put it in one of these enclosures and give it to people as an external backup drive with an image of their old HDD. They have worked great. I am using two myself as backup data drives. Maybe the performance isn't super fast but I'd never know. I'm using them exclusively for old laptop hard drives which are slow as mud anyway.:-)These are perfect for my needs.

Bottom Line: For $8.99 plus tax this is a great budget external enclosure for a 2.5" SATA drive.I upgraded my old laptop to a SSD and wanted to get some use out of the 500GB HDD I pulled out. With flash drives as cheap as they are (512GB USB 3 is ~$40), I didn't want to spend too much on an enclosure because frankly a flash drive of the same size would be more convenient and faster. Heck, new, name brand 1TB external drives go for ~$60. I wanted to spend less than $20 on an enclosure and actually spent less than $10. That's a win in my book.This enclosure is made of plastic that doesn't seem like it would take a fall from anything over a height of a foot, so I recommend being careful with it, but you should be careful with hard drives in general, especially magnetic disks that are so easily damaged if they're knocked around. Not the best material, but again, $9.It came with some stick on foam pads, which I assume are for thinner SSDs to make them fit snugly. Since mine is a thicker HDD, it fit snugly without the pads. Oddly, I didn't see anything about the pads in the instructions, so I'm just assuming that's what they're for. It is incredibly easy to install the drive in the enclosure. If you took your hard drive out of a laptop, it may have a "sled" attached to it, like mine did, that needs to come off before the drive is installed in the enclosure.My only gripe about this product is that the lid does not snap into place securely. That would make it convenient if you plan to swap drives in and out, but I don't plan to. I like the no tool design, but if I so much as touch it, it starts to slide off. I put a piece of electrical tape on it to hold it in place. Not pretty, but it works. If the lid fit securely, this would be a 5 star review.

Works as it should. I like that it is portable. It has a nice design. Get this if you need one!

El producto funciona muy bien, todos los discos de 2.5'que le he insertado trabajan adecuadamente. La calidad de la carcasa es regular, pero bien para el costo. Quedo satisfecho con la compra.

I bought it for reuse a SSD driver from a old computer. There is no need for any tool to installation of the driver into the box, just slide in, and push back. Once connected to the computer it works right away, truly PNP! Highly recommended to the people need a box for old or new Internal SSD drive using as a external extension.
