Husband loved the gift!
It was shipped on time and it arrived in good condition for Christmas. My husband really likes the book. The only down side was that it did not include any information or pictures of Alice in Chains and that is his favorite band. Besides that, he loved it.

A wrong book cover?
To be quite honest, I was really dissapointed when I got this book. Everywhere you read about on the net was calling this book a great retrospective with almost astonishing material you would'nt find anywhere else (if they meant the few bands shots, that's kind of correct)The book, mostly, comes with pictures from random people at places that gave birth to "the scene" of early 80's to mid 90's and only a few pictures are from the bands that were important for the Seattle scene, but being a few doesn't mean it sucks, actually the band pictures add a lot of consistency to the book's goal. However the lack of mmore band pictures is a pity, cause Michael lavine has a huge collection of pics from Seattle bands, or at least from the so-called "alternative era"Anyways, for those who like staring at beatiful B & W pictures the books makes it. I like B & W pics, but again Mr. Lavine's music works will never be as interesting as Charles Peterson's, He's the guy you should be into if you are infatuated with Grunge. The hardcover, and the whole desing of the book is quite good, pictures are also very good, but considering the little amount of "Grunge Bands" on it, the book title would've been better known as "Seattle 80's & 90's underground" but i get that "Grunge" nowadays is a business word for those with enough age to have a regular job if you know what I mean.

especially if you're a Nirvana fan like I am
Minimal text by Thurston and a bunch of Lavine's photos. Leaves you wanting a lot more, especially if you're a Nirvana fan like I am. I'd love to see a book of Lavine's Cobain/Nirvana photos, but there's only a couple in this book. All black and white too, which is unfortunate because a lot of his photos look amazing in color.

Perfect
Took me right back - to the clubs - to the fuzzy, earringing after hours - to Belltown - to the 80s - to my wilder youth. Love, LOVE this book!

No Layne, Jerry; Not a complete account of so called Grunge. Highly misleading title.
No Alice In Chains. No Mad Season. No Layne or Jerry. At all! I'm sorry, this book doesn't deserve the title "Grunge," if it includes White Zombie but does not include Alice In Chains. I could make many convincing arguments on the problems abound here but I won't waste your time. If you think, as I do, that the term "Grunge," should at least include a meaning that is imbued with national consciousness and not merely a local Seattle one, in which one photographer usurped the term to apply to his own collection of photos then this picture "book" is not for you. In fact, look for the considerably more representative "Of Potatoeheads and Polaroids" by Mike McCready.Any book that includes Courtney Love and keeps out Layne Staley when it comes to Seattle music of the 80s and 90s is worthy only of kindling to start a fire in your cozy abode and read a real book on the scene.Had the author not been so brash as to call the book "Grunge," I might not have come down so hard on it. But it's far from complete. Many bands that are included are certainly not Grunge at all. And many that should be included are nowhere to be found. The great crime being lack of Alice and Mad Season. Shame on you author. Despicable.

Grunge
Good photos, but it's really not a book about Nirvana, if that's what readers are looking for. And Thurston Moore's contribution is opportunistic, as usual, and minimal. My girlfriend's picture is in it.

Really good collection of photographs from Seattle
Really good collection of photographs from Seattle , capturing the bands before world wide fame , just reminded me how many great bands existed in the early nineties from buffalo Tom to Mudhoney , still have a legacy today. If you we're into the grunge scene you'll really enjoy this book, which is put together with a lot of love and care.

Lovely book
Really lovely book, full of lots of pictures from the grunge era and despite the front cover it is not too heavily Nirvana orientated (nothing wrong with Nirvana but there are so many other bands that influenced this time!)
