what size rings are needed for the mossberg patriot 6.5 creedmoor?

This scope needs 34mm rings. Because of the 56mm objective, you need a minimum 1.46" scope height (to centerline) with most combinations of ring and base coming to 1.50'' for 40 thou clearance. You'll need a base to fit your rifle, unless they are integral to the rings, and the base and rings must be of the same style; weaver, picatinny, etc... Hope this helps.

My goal is to make my way up to targets at 500 yards. Would this be an adequate riflescope for that distance?

More than adequate. I shoot F class competition with mine at 600yds. I also shoot 850 and 1000yds. Although I will say 1000 yds the ole saying you get what you pay for comes into play.

willl I receive an unwrapped boxed scope with missing items in it ?

I received a new scope and the sun shade and zero stop rings were missing. As far as I can tell they were never placed in the box. I called Vortex and they sent the missing item right away with no questions asked. But the original box was an unopened retail box in my opinion.
