For murder hornets, I'd move up to a .177 cal. Even a grazing shot would be enough to cripple him, just be sure to split before he radios for backup. May the odds be in your favor.

What is the advantages of the 3.0 over the Lawn & Garden model? Anyone have a comparison?

The Lawn & Garden claims more salt dispersed. But since I have both I really can't tell the difference in the amount of salt during shooting. The 3.0 has in my opinion more force. Regardless both does the job just fine especially if you use the Salt in company provides with less powdery substance.

will this kill a cockroach?

Yes... it will. It will embed salt in it's eyes and shell and it will die. Have killed several over the last few yrs with mine.
