this was a good reference and beginner course
Once I was able to download the audio and correlate the audio with the lessons, this was a good reference and beginner course.

I can't use this book unfortunately.
Unfortunately for me I bought the book thinking I would retire in Thailand, but that's not going to happen unfortunately. I haven't read the book and I'm sure it's pretty good, but instead of getting an attitude I gave it three stars. Buyer beware I'm sure it's a decent both but it's best to go to a language School or get a translator device.

Perfect Entry Point to Thai
One of the best ways to learn a language is to learn phrases along with relevant vocabulary. By learning basic sentence structures, you can simply swap out words in the sentence to create new sentences. This is the exact approach this book uses. For example, once you learn how to say "I like fried chicken", you can simply substitute the words "fried" and "chicken" with any other method of cooking and food and be able to say many different things. If you learn the words for three cooking methods and three types of meat, for example, then you can make nine sentences. As a study tip for this book, make flashcards for each lesson's vocabulary and basic phrases, and then after you have memorized the words and phrases, start making new sentences. Pay attention to how the sentences change and you can start picking up on grammar rules implicitly.

Download the audio from the Tuttle website
I see a lot of complaints on here about the CD having issues. Just download the audio from their website. It is available for free. Also, not everyone has a CD player/drive, so all the more reason to just download the audio.

Not an effective or easy to use book
Not an effective guidebook for those looking to pull out quick phrases. Includes bizzarely specific things upfront without giving me basics that I needed in my trip. Better off randomly googling things

A Great Inexpensive Book.
I visited Thailand late last year (2015) and learnt one or two greetings and courtesies, but I wish I had had this book prior to my visit to this beautiful country and it's friendly people. Life would've been far easier as most Thai people I met away from tourist areas only have a modicum of English. The book is ideal for beginners and intermediaries alike and includes a CD, which is invaluable in pronunciation. There are exercises throughout the book and information of the location on the CD of these exercises. There is helpful information at the rear of the book for visitors to Thailand, and a Thai-English dictionary.Overall this is an excellent book and value for money!
