I replaced one of the same units that I had for years. I actually have several units in different locations in my home, with different frequencies of course. The receiver of the unit I replaced went bad, but the transmitter still worked fine, so I mounted it at the other end of the hallway, and can now turn the light off or on from either end of the hallway. I was delighted to find the same product on line, as Home Depot had stopped carrying it because it did not fit in with the newer "internet of things," such as smart switches and lights, etc. Like I said I have been using this product for many years, and this was the first time one of the units went bad. I don't hesitate to give the Westek RFK 1600 the highest possible rating!

Works great Better than having twice a new circuit

I bought wall mounted switch for a pendant light I recently bought for over my sink. We have recess lighting in the kitchen that connected to may other lights and nothing for just over my sink. I didnt want to call in a electrician so I bought a pendant light with a long cord and plug it in. I had a switch on the cord witch was up the cord a bit but it didnt give the feeling a true light fixture. plus the light and the cord was set back towards the wall and the mostly hidden from view behind curtains. i order the wall switch and its the best thing i could have done for this project. 1st of all you can place the switch wearever you want, i guess change the switch if you want too. I place ours next to the other switches in the hall entering the kitchen . i can turn on some of the recess lights from there and best of all just the lamp over the sink if i want. Perfect too for getting a quick drink of water or doing the dishes later in the evening when you dont want all the lights on. the receiver part ( where the lamp is plug into is plug into a outlet just on the left side of the sink. I guess I should have started with the setting up but others reviews already mention that. I just had to use the sheet rock mounting parts for the screws causes there was only sheet rock were i wanted the switch <near the others switches.

We recently moved into a rental home that has no overhead lighting in the main sitting room of the house. There are lots of large bay windows offering plenty of light during the day but at night it turns into a veritable cave. If it weren't a rental I would have the ceiling wired for overhead lighting, but as it is, I just have stationed lamps in literally every corner of the room. It's a big pain to go around turning them all on and off however, so I bought these in hopes of cutting down the amount of leg work it takes to achieve "light" in that room at night. In order to do this, I needed all of them to be on the same channel. This proved to be the most difficult part. As noted in the description, random channels are sent unless otherwise requested. I started out by ordering two and requesting the same channel. When they arrived, I got one E and one F channel. I initiated an exchange and in the notes for the return specifically request that an F channel be sent. When it arrived, it was a G. *sigh* So, I ordered a 4th one, requesting another F and when it arrived it was an E. Fortunately I hadn't returned returned any of the originals yet and FINALLY had at least one pair of the same channel so I tried them out and they work great! *NOTE: If you are using multiple of these in the house and want one switch to control multiple lamps like I did, you HAVE to have the same channel. If you're using multiple of these in the house to control different things in different rooms you HAVE to have different channels. The signals are very strong. So here's what you need to know: The set up could not be easier. When this arrives you unscrew the white face plate screws of the switch box and remove the tab blocking the included battery and test the switch by plugging it in where you want it and holding the switch box near where you plan to mount it. I installed two outlet boxes in one room. One under an end table by the couch to power a lamp on top of the end table and one under/behind an accent table on the opposite side of the room to power a lamp on top of that table. The tables and objects in the way did not interfere with the signal at all. They worked flawlessly! If you want to mount it to the wall using the screws and anchors provided, you do that next. However, the switch box only weighs a few ounces and the hardware included is the definition of overkill. I appreciate that they include it, but it REALLY is not necessary to have 2 wall anchors and 2 screws to mount something so small and light. I chose instead to use two paper thin, clear Command strips (the kind intended for hanging posters etc) to mount this on the wall next to another light switch and it worked perfectly. This thing isn't going anywhere. Just for your information, the switch is more of a button than a switch. You don't flip it up and down but press the top or bottom of the button. You can press either side and it will turn on/off. It makes a button press clicking noise but nothing obnoxious. It just isn't quite like flipping a switch like you might imagine. That isn't a problem, just an observation. As you can see from my pictures, the size and look of the switch plate does a decent job of replicating the size and shape of a tradition in wall switch but it isn't exact. For one thing, this switch box is quite a bit thicker/bulkier and for another thing, the switch isn't a switch but a button. Still, I think it looks good enough! As I mentioned, this product works really well once installed. The reason I took off 1 star is because the white face plate screws are cheap plastic and got all marred up just gently unscrewing them with a regular screwdriver. You can see what I mean in my pictures. Makes them look tacky. My advice is to be VERY careful unscrewing them and putting them back in if you don't want them to get destroyed. Either that or plan to replace them with the same size white head metal screws. Additionally, these ONLY work with 2 pronged plugs. If you have something to plug in that has 3 prongs you will either need to add a converter or you're out of luck with these. I also wish the button were an actual switch, but that is a very minor quibble. My biggest problem with this item was not with the item itself (which is why I only took off one star) but was with getting the RIGHT items for my needs. Just be aware that you may not get exactly what you request! If you only need one, you don't have to worry about it (lucky you)! All in all I am THRILLED with this find and can highly recommend this product if you have lamps or any other 2 pronged plug in electronics or appliances that you want to easily turn on or off from a wall plate. For the record, I did NOT receive this item for free or at a discount! I paid full price (for all 4 of them haha!). Hope this helps!

...as another reviewer noted, be careful to specify the frequency if you are ordering more than one (or if you are ordering a second one in a different order). From what I gather, they come in frequencies "A" through "E". The way that I tried to specify the frequency was that the first switch I ordered was on the "B" frequency, so in the comments sections where you could leave instructions as if it was a gift, I told them to send me anything except one in the "B" frequency because I already had that. The second one they sent me was on frequency "D" so I think that it worked. I agree that there should be a way that we can just leave an instruction as to the frequency that we want, but there isn't. I figured that since the vendor would read those instructions from the customer, this is probably better than just taking a chance that they won't send you a second one on the same frequency as the first one that you ordered. As far as the product is concerned, it works well and does the job. The switch has excellent range and you don't necessarily need a clear line of sight to the remotely controlled plug. I was able to install a remote light switch for my living room pole lamp at the top of the stairs coming from the master bedroom. The second was installed on the headboard of my bed so I could remotely control the pole lamp in my bedroom. I did the same thing at my elderly mother's house and she loves the convenience of having the light switch at the head of her bed. I definitely recommend this product. You an use some double sided tape and mount your light switch at any convenient location.

I have an old house, and I don't want to chop holes in my old walls to run electrical wiring and switches. I've bought a few of these Westek wireless wall mounted switches for various rooms in my home. Mostly to turn on and off lamps so I don't have to walk into a dark room and fumble for the light switch. I was telling a friend of mine about my recent purchase, and he thought it might work for his lighting situation. He lives on a second floor apartment with a first floor entry. He has to walk up a flight of stairs into a dark room, and then turn on the closest lamp to get light into the room. We both wondered if you had two of these switches, would it work as a 3-way switch? (FYI- a 3-way switch controls from two points.... doesn't make sense, they should really call it a 2-way 'cause you can turn it on and off two different ways). So he went ahead and ordered two Westek switches. Well it worked! He put one switch at the bottom of the staircase, and the other at the top of the staircase and plugged the lamp into a nearby outlet. No major damage to your walls (just 2 little holes), DIY simple and no electrician needed! Wish they sold this product with an additional switch or a single switch option without the plug in box. Looks great and makes me happy that I can easily control more lights in my home.

I ordered 3 of these to use with floor lamps in my new apartment that doesn't have much lighting on switches built in. I got them yesterday and I'm throwing them away today. They essentially don't work. I got 3 of them, supposedly on different channels (D, E, and F), but if I press the button on any one controller, there is about equal (and totally random) chance that any one of the 3 will turn on or off (or 2 of the three or all three may toggle). That's actually not the main problem though. If I take the multi-channels out of the picture, and just look at the operation of a single unit, it is EXTREMELY flaky and unreliable. The plastic rocker switch on the remote is really low quality, so it's a little tricky to actually get it to press the button on the circuit board underneath. You have to press it firmly and leave it for a moment. But once you do that, the battle is not won. No, not by a long shot. I popped of the cover plate on the remote so that I could press the actual buttons underneath and eliminate any error that was introduced by this flaky rocker switch. There are 2 buttons (corresponding to the "UP" and "DOWN" positions of the rocker). They are interchangeable. When either one is pressed, I'd say there is about a 70% chance that it actually causes the outlet to toggle its state. This chance is increased by pressing the button for a longer time (if you hold it for 3 or 4 seconds you're probably up to like a 95% chance). Also there seems to be some sort of refractory period of a few seconds after one successful switch press, during which another switch press is certain (or at least very likely) to be unsuccessful. And the final cherry on top?... Sometimes the outlet just randomly toggles for no reason at all (I developed a theory that it had something to do with me doing some operations on my cell phone, but that could easily just be me trying to find a pattern where none actually exists). In summary, this product was supposed to make my life more convenient by preventing me from having to walk across a room to operate a switch on a floor lamp. Instead, it poses a severe threat of driving me into a homicidal rage by being unbelievably flaky in pretty much every aspect of its operation.

I probably didn't read the manual closely enough (or at all) and focused on user reviews saying you get one of 4 frequencies when you order, and there was no way to pre-select so, for example, you'd get two switches that would both be controlled by a single switch. But I bought a different item from another manufacturer that came with programming instructions and looked similar enough I figured I'd try it. So here's how it works: - Press and hold the button on the outlet until the green light starts blinking slowly. - Press ON and then OFF on the switch you want to control that outlet. - Repeat as needed for other outlets (to control multiple outlets with the same switch) or switches (to have multiple switches that control the same outlet(s)). If you accidentally do something wrong, no big deal. To clear out programming (so the outlet no longer responds to ANY switches): - Press and hold the button on the outlet until the green light starts blinking QUICKLY (it will first start blinking slowly, then will get faster). - Press the button on the outlet again and all programming is cleared. It's true that the SWITCHES come on whatever frequency they come on, and you can't pre-select that, but you can solve almost any issue through programming. This has changed my rating on this item to a 5 - they are incredibly flexible. Highly recommended. I didn't get anything for writing this review - I just thought this discovery was worth sharing!

Works great

Worked great the first week then it wouldn't turn the lamp on. This happened a few odd times but has happened more and more as time passes. EDIT REVIEW: was sent a new one and it works perfect and I have had no issues so I am editing my review

This product works very well , just as advertised . Very useful product for anyone in an older home with rooms without ceiling lights , operates a light just as a normal light switch would .

Works great. Not many of these out there that resemble a wall switch. Only complaints are: 1. Wish the plug was on the front, not side. I have a plug near a corner and it almost made it unusable. 2. Wall switch design could stand to look a little more like a real switch. Not a big deal though. Otherwise, 2 thumbs up!

I recently moved into an apartment with no plugs or hardwired electrical lights in the entryway which was a serious issue since the nearest outlet was about eight to ten feet away and made things... interesting in the dark. I wanted a product that looked like a normal switch and was easy to use so I was delighted to find this product! My only pet peeve is that it came with no instructions. Learn from my mistakes: do not try and pry off the switch portion with three flat head screwdrivers, they should unscrew. Duh. Just take off the tape that's blocking the battery and plug it all in and you're set. I bought this product and the plug in lamp that is commonly bought together and after plugging it in the next room and running the cord back into the entryway, bam(!) let there be light! So pleased.
