Voyagers: Escape the Vortex (Book 5)

I was as riveted as my 4th grader
My 10-year-old son and I always have a book going that we are reading together. I read one chapter aloud to him each night. We started with the first book of this series after his grandmother randomly picked it up at a BJs, but we were quickly addicted. The last two books we had to actually wait to be published and it was agony! The premise is really interesting and, in terms of lessons, teaches kids about loyalty, perseverance, sacrifice, teamwork, and the greater good. It also teaches about forgiveness, taking the high road, and being innovative. Along with all of that, it's a fun read with a lot of action, adventure, and fantastical places and things. In terms of diversity, there's a really good/thoughtful split. The kids are split evenly between boys and girls and the team is international, so there are plenty of cultures represented. One of the main characters is disabled and totally awesome, which is fantastic since there is such a tendency towards defaulting to the (white) able-bodied protagonist. We read all of them as quickly as they could come out and we're keeping our fingers crossed for some kind of sequel!Another interesting thing about the series is that each entry was written by a different author. This could be disjointed but actually works nicely. The subtle variations in writing style makes it feel more like getting a look at the characters from a different angle rather than from a different universe entirely.

Great series for adventure lovers....
As a children's librarian who also purchases books for K-8 students, I get a first-hand look at the popularity of children's books. I've been very happy with the Voyagers series. I first added book 1 to see how it would do, and I had several requests for the second book. I ended up adding all six and so far they have been flying off the shelves. There is adventure and suspense, but it's appropriate in language and subject matter. It includes cool graphics and symbols, which will engage more reluctant readers. The target audience so far in my experience has been boys in 5th-7th grades; highly recommend for kids who like adventure series and far parents looking for books on the "cleaner" and "kid friendly" side.

Great series for young readers!
My 9yo loved this series! He would stay up for hours at night to read and was excited about the next night to pickup where he left off! I definitely recommend this for young readers.
