The essential guide to take care of your family’s health when you can’t get medical help or answers right away. It's the worst snowstorm you can remember. The ice-covered streets are abandoned. You hear a boom in the distance, and your computer screen goes blank. Darkness. A crash and another bang from inside the house. In the hallway, your husband sits on the floor, soaked in blood. You dial 911, and all you get is a busy signal. Would you know what to do next? The Survival Doctor’s Complete Handbook will teach you just what you need to know to take care of yourself and your loved ones in the event you aren’t able to get professional medical help right away. Encompassing but going well beyond immediate first aid, the book covers: How to put a dislocated joint back into place How to prevent hypothermia when your heat has gone out What to do for asthma when you don’t have your inhaler Whether you can really drink your own urine if you run out of water What to feed your toddler if he has a fever and you have no medicine ...and much more Featuring more than 100 illustrations, along with quick quizzes and real-life examples, The Survival Doctor’s Complete Handbook will take you step by step through the essentials of medical care during a crisis. Perhaps you’ve been stranded by a sudden storm when out camping. Maybe you live alone in a rural area, and can’t easily get to a doctor when you hurt your arm. Or you just want to make sure you and your family are prepared to safely weather the next hurricane, polar vortex, tornado strike, heat wave, earthquake, or other natural disaster. Whatever your situation and your health needs, The Survival Doctor’s Complete Handbook is your must-have medical resource. Review: An accurate and simple resource. - An accurate and simple resource. Review: Great book! - This book is clearly written and the information very readable. The format is such that it is easy to find the information quickly. Dr. Hubbard gets to the point of each possible situation and doesn't waste time giving unnecessary detail, but yet there is plenty enough instruction to do what needs to be done in any given problem--information that could save a life. The range of topics is very thorough. This is an extremely useful book for anyone who lives in a rural area or spends time in the outdoors, especially hikers, kayakers, hunters, etc. The book is also useful for anyone living in a metropolitan area where help is just a phone call away because it teaches you things to do to mitigate damage to the body in those precious moments before help does arrive. A worthwhile book and reasonably priced.

Great Reference on advanced first aid - DOES NOT and WILL NOT replace hospital or ER.
This is a great book, but please don't mistake it as a replacement for advanced medical care. It's basically advanced first aid.. which will ensure your patient has a fighting chance at surviving their condition UNTIL you can get them to a hospital. If you are a survival sort, depending on your medical knowledge and experience, you may find something useful here - but be assured that this WILL NOT replace expert medical care in SHTF scenario. Most of the techniques here are to stabilize or alleviate a condition until you can get somewhere that has access to proper medicine and machinery necessary to survive traumatic illness or injury. Nearly all of the material here is followed up with - THEN SEEK EXPERT MEDICAL CARE. It's certainly worth keeping on hand as a resources after reading through a few times.

A comprehensive and practical approach to survival medicine.
I am so excited to see the new book. I have enjoyed the "Duct Tape 911" book by Dr. Hubbard, and, although I have several first aid books, and even one called "What to Do When There Is No Doctor" (which really focuses more on medicine in far off places), I found them lacking. I have been a nurse working ER and Critical Care Units (among other areas) over a period of 46 years, which might be why I see so much missing from the other first aid type books I have. What I especially like about this new book is the practical approach, using clinical assessment in the absence of diagnostic testing, to figure out the problem. I am seeing doctors today who seem to lack clinical assessment skills (or just don't use them). This book is quite comprehensive addressing many conditions not even mentioned in other such books. Another important point is that Dr. Hubbard gives practical advice but recognizes that some conditions really, really need a doctor, and he makes the recommendation when it is indicated. I also like the visual aids and myth alert components, which are very helpful. I might add that, despite my extensive experience in managing injury and critical illness, I learned much from this new book!!

Great emergency info
This book is detailed enough that it would be able to walk anyone thru dealing with an emergency. As an RN, it's also a great refresher and I've learned some skills I didn't have before. It will enable me to deal calmly with most issues. Highly recommend.

Get a copy for your emergency kit!
This is an excellent book to have in your Emergency Kit. The author is very knowledgeable, but the book it still VERY readable, enjoyable even with his anecdotes. No matter what area you live in there are snow and ice storms, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornados and floods. Every person should know how to make the best of an awful situation and this book is an excellent resource, just as important as the other supplies in your kit.

Not for the average person.
This book is not for the average person. Most of it requires you having a lot of training and access to someone who can get you prescriptions to keep up on hand. It is good for those people but would not help me in a real emergency where you had to wait for hours or days for help.
