Great Alarm Clock!
I ordered this alarm clock because the previous one I had bought the farm. It got old, dusty and just didn't work properly after about 6 years. No these won't last forever, as with most things manufactured these days, but they are a nice touch if you really need to wake up at a specific time. The included vibrating attachment is very loud, should you choose to connect it. I didn't want to be late for work a few days during crunch time so I plugged it in and set it inside my bedside drawer. Needless to say, I woke up. As far as setting the time goes, it's got a slow and fast ticker. There is no reversing, so if you miss the minute you want, you have to sit for a while to dial it in. You can also set TWO alarms on this clock and both can be activated at the same time, or just one or the other. The numbers come in a classic red as shown in the listing picture, and is dimmable if desired. I highly recommend this for anyone having trouble getting out of bed (just set it in another room to avoid the snooze button)

10 Years Still Going Strong
I write this review because I was worried that the vibration shaker finally gave out, but apparently it just needed unplugging and plugging back in. As the title states, I got this alarm clock 10 years ago because I needed something that would still wake me up without disturbing other members of the household; the vibration shaker was the perfect solution for my needs. The decibel alarm itself is very effectively loud, so I cannot speak for it as much as I only used the vibration option to wake up in the morning, but I love this clock dearly. The accuracy of the alarm triggering is always spot on, the time display is very much visible and easy to read. The black/red appearance of it is a favorite color combination of mine. I cannot speak for the battery life as I've only left the clock plugged into the wall, but I'm sure it's just as good as the rest of its functions. The first few times you use the vibration shaker, it'll jostle you for sure, but you'll quickly get used to it and I find it necessary to use alongside my phone alarm to get me up in the mornings. Unfortunately the price is higher than what I paid back then, but considering general inflation over time and the quality of this clock? I'd buy it again easily. In need of a forever(?) alarm clock? Look no further!

Great alarm clock for waking sound sleepers!
This clock is getting rather mixed reviews and I was a little worried when I bought my first one about a year ago. I bought it for my son, who was a senior in high school. He slept through all of the alarms that I bought at Wal-mart for him. He would then be late (or not go) to school and the principal would call me to ask where he was. (I swear the principal had me on speed dial!) After I gave my son this alarm he never slept through his alarm again. He did leave school early on numerous occasions (and the principal kept me on speed dial) but an alarm clock can only do so much at helping with parenting. (He graduated, thank God, and uses the alarm to wake-up for work now.) My son's alarm has worked perfectly since the day it arrived, so I had no qualms in deciding to buy one for myself last April. I am hard-of-hearing and I like the vibrating disc that goes under my mattress. It wakes me up right away. I don't even put on the noise--just the vibrator. It works great! It has gained 2 minutes in 5 months. I think people should READ THE DIRECTIONS and set the switch on the back for USA electric currents! My son-in-law and daughter sleep through their alarms all the time--even when they have 2 or 3 of them set! I gave them my Sonic Bomb alarm clock 3 days ago and he has woke up on time every day since! That is why I am purchasing my third one today. I need another one for me. These alarm clocks are great and I highly recommend them to heavy sleepers, hard-of-hearing, or even profoundly deaf people. There are some features the clock has that are not mentioned in the description of the clock: 1) It has battery back-up--so when the electric goes out (ours goes out about 15 times a year) the clock still keeps time. 2) The alarm has the ability to be on just noise--really loud annoying beeping, which can be adjusted for loudness and tone (for hard-of-hearing people who hear some tones and not others)Or you can put it on just vibrate--for people like me who don't like to wake-up with adrenaline pumping through my body. Or you can really juice it up by putting on the noise AND vibrate your bed, which my son and son-in-law both use to wake-up. 3)It also has flashing red lights that go off when the alarm does to help people wake-up. I do not have anything bad to say about the clock. I highly recommend buying one. Just make sure to read the directions pertaining to the switch on the back about setting it for which country you will be using it in. August 9, 2012 Update: All 3 of our alarms are still working great! February 9, 2014 Update: All 3 still working fantastic! The best alarms we have ever owned! August 19, 2021 Update: My alarm is still working great!! Keeps great time and the vibrator is still functioning perfectly!! Wakes me up everytime. I assume my married kids' alarms that I gave them are still working or they would have asked me where to buy a new one, Lol

Great alarm, poor configuration experience.
Very loud, definitely will wake up an extremely heavy sleeper, but a struggle to set. If you wake up at the same time every day, you can't go wrong with this clock, but if you have to wake up at varying times, setting this clock is a nightmare. Time only counts up, you cannot go backwards if you go beyond the time you want - you have to loop around 24 hours to get back. While setting the alarm, if the alarm is armed, the alarm will go off while setting it - this is a design oversight. Overall, this is a strong recommendation for heavy sleepers who get up at the same time every day.

changed my life
i adore this clock. i have a couple complaints about it, but i’ll start with what i love. i call myself a sleep addict— when i’m asleep or half-awake, i will do ANYTHING for just five more minutes. so if an alarm isn’t loud enough to force me awake, i will snooze it in my sleep over and over and over again. before i got the sonic boom (which i realize is actually called the sonic bomb, but i misread it when i bought it and have just been calling it the sonic boom), i would put my alarm clock or phone across the room to try to force myself to get up to turn it off. no dice— i sleep with fans and a white noise machine and nothing was loud enough to wake me up from that distance. enter, the sonic boom. it is truly like a fire alarm going off in my room. i’ve had it for months now and still, every morning when it goes off, i bolt upright out of bed to turn it off. one morning i even actually body checked my bookshelf in my haste to get out of bed. it is tremendously loud, even from across my bedroom, and even through all the fans and white noise i sleep with. before i got it, waking up in the morning felt like something in which i had no control. nothing could wake me up, and nothing could force me to actually get out of bed. so i’d snooze my alarms until eventually waking up enough to realize what time it was, and then panic over how late i was. now, i feel like i have control back! i have something that will consistently MAKE me wake up, and actually wake up, not just the half asleep version of myself that will do anything for five more minutes of sleep. to warn fellow apartment dwellers, it IS loud enough that your neighbors will hear if you have thin walls. (thankfully i don’t) my one complaint with this alarm clock is how irritating it is to set the time / adjust the alarm time. rather than changing the hour and then changing the minutes, there are buttons ‘fast’ and ‘slow’ and you have to cycle through all 60 minutes x 24 hours in a day. and if you’re holding down the ‘fast’ button and accidentally go past your time, you can’t go backwards, only forwards. on weekdays, i wake up at the same time so never need to change my alarm times, but sometimes on weekends, i need a different time. the irritation of changing the alarm time will often keep me from bothering to use the sonic boom for those days because it is such a pain to adjust. i honestly don’t know why they designed it this way; it’s infuriating. other than that one complaint, i am an absolute lover of this product. for all my fellow heavy sleepers, sleep addicts, and anyone who feels like they don’t have control over their waking up process, this is the alarm clock for you.

Apparent top-quality, top-rated, feature-filled Alarm Clock . . .
I just received this Alarm Clock yesterday and set it up today. I chose this Alarm Clock because it was rated 4.3 out of 5.0 at Amazon.com and because it is one of the five "A-" rated alarm clocks at the Good Housekeeping web site and one of Good Housekeeping's six "A" to "A-" rated alarm clock. I bought this alarm clock to replace a vintage, 20+ year old, KMC LED basic alarm clock, because the alarm function no longer works, though the time function still functions fine. I also chose this alarm clock because of its high decibel and vibrating functions. I purchased it for my 18 year old daughter, who sleeps like the dead, so that she will wake up in time to make it to her college classes. Ever since the semester started, three or four weeks ago, I have been waking her up at either 5 or 6 a.m., using my own internal alarm clock, because the alarms on a standard alarm clock and on two different cell phones don't wake her up. As for me, I don't need an alarm clock to wake up in time, because I always wake up 5 to 10 minutes before a set alarm clock is to go off. Unfortunately, my daughter, like my wife, sleeps like the dead. I have spent the last four years waking my wife up to get to her off to her RN classes, since regular alarm clocks don't work that well for her. My wife has graduated and is now employed as an RN, but now I must wake up my daughter to get her off to school. I am hoping that this alarm clock will work as an effective backup for my internal alarm clock, just in case I don't wake up in time to wake my daughter up. The Sonic Alert Sonic Boom SBB5000ss alarm clock appears well made, is feature-filled, and is easy to program and use. Though it comes with simple, easy-to-read, easy-to-understand instructions, the basic functions really do not need instructions. The alarm's audio function is very loud. The alarm's vibrating function and remote unit seem to be very effective. The display is easy to read. I tested it. The alarm is great, and appears to be able to wake even the dead. All the alarm functions appear to be very effective; however, Monday morning, when my daughter needs to get up for school, I will find out how effective it really is. If the clock malfunctions or is not as great as I believe it is, I will post as follow-up comment, but right now and until that time, I strongly recommend this alarm clock. It appears to be well worth the money and a very nice alarm clock.

Excellent product that should get anyone up for the day
the clock allows the user to set up to 2 different alarms. For each alarm the user can specify how loud it should be and select the tone for the alarm. Excellent product that should get just about anyone up for the day.

Deaf & Hibernate Like The Dead!
I am 100% deaf and have medical conditions, including Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I have hypersomnia, an excessive need for sleep due to a combination of factors such as my medical conditions including CFS and possibly medication side effects (I take quite a list of meds). Previously, I had a Shake & Wake vibration alarm clock. I was sleeping through the alarm, even though the clock and vibration unit were working fine. Prior to my current treatment, I was sleeping for 20 hours straight. It drove me insane, as I have a life and things to do. I take Ritalin to combat the fatigue and hypersomnia, which is the one that works (I've tried so many things and other meds to address this issue without any success). I needed to wake up to take the medication. If the alarm did not wake me, and I didn't get the medication taken, I just sleep like an Energizer Bunny without a battery. I was having huge anxiety over waking up in time for my doctors' appointments. I knew I had to do something about this issue. I found out that there are stronger vibration units. I believe this Sonic Bomb clock's vibration unit is 12 volts, which is stronger than the Shake & Wake clock that I had. So, when I purchased this Sonic Bomb clock and used it, I was quite pleased that it actually wakes me up. Typically, I have it at a time to wake me up for my Ritalin, conk right out again, and then wake up naturally in an hour or two (or by the alarm clock, if I needed to be up at a specific time. I have an extreme difficulty in waking up without Ritalin, so this is really crucial for me. Now, I don't worry about wakening on time for my doctors' appointments. This product is a very crucial part in my life. I would not take this for granted because my body clock is "broken," if there's any functioning there. The only drawback is not really a complaint about the product are those buttons. If I'm holding down a button while changing the alarm timing, those buttons hurt. They're kind of pointy to my fingers. Hehe. Not really a big deal, as long as it doesn't cause more than minor pain. Another thing that has me a bit concerned are the jacks on the back of the clock. The back wall of the clock is slanted, which makes the plug-ins feel like they could easily fall off. It hasn't been an issue, so far. I think it will be fine this way. I do like the design and everything. One thing that surprises me about this product are the lights. On my previous clock, there was a little strobe light that goes off when the alarm goes off. The strobe was a very blindingly bright light. The Sonic Bomb has 3 LED orange light, on mine, that goes off with the alarm. The previous clock's strobe flash failed to wake me. I did not expect these LED lights to do the job, and did not have my expectations high on that due to my previous clock's strobe. These LED lights definitely woke me up! I was scratching my head over how it could wake me while the previous clock's strobe didn't. I believe the vibration's frequency works, as well. My previous clock's vibration would be continual for, I think 2 hours (?). The Sonic Bomb's vibration would be in bursts, and I think that is a huge help. I'm very thankful for this clock. :D

Wonderful alarm for the hearing-impaired
I live in a duplex, and my tenant upstairs can hear a pin drop, it seems. Me, on the other hand...I've been hearing-impaired ever since having radiation/chemo treatments 15 years ago, and I have to wear hearing aids. When I don't have them in at night, a bomb could go off and I probably wouldn't hear it. Since I wake very early in the morning to go to work (5a.m.) I needed something that would wake me, but without disturbing the tenant. After seeing another review here from a mom who stated that her hearing-impaired son benefitted from this, I decided to try it, and wound up ordering one. Several months later, and I am in love with this alarm. I don't use the sound feature on this one (obviously) but rely on the vibration function in order to get up in the morning. And let me tell you, that vibration is strong! I place the vibrator-extension part under my pillow, and as soon as it starts up, I'm wide awake. There's no way anyone could sleep through it! It's silent, so it doesn't disturb other household members, and it's strong enough to wake anyone from a very deep slumber. (The alarm itself also flashes a red light when the vibration mode comes on, but I tend to not use that since I can't actually see the alarm clock until I sit up.) One tap on the bottom right button shuts off the wake vibration; one tap on top of the alarm gives you a chance to snooze (and you can set the time you want to snooze). AND the instructions on how to set up the alarm are extremely easy to follow (it couldn't even confuse me, and that's saying a lot!). The only thing that I perhaps might give a 'con' to is the clock itself; it's so lightweight that, in an effort to turn off the alarm, one could easily knock it over. I've gotten used to this though...and it's a minor flaw. Overall, for the price, the ease of use, and the reliability, I'd say this is one of the best investments I've made in a long time. Highly recommended. For the price
