Beautiful Star Trek Tri-D chess set!
My wife got this for me for my birthday and I love it! I’ve wanted one since I was a kid. Quality is built in from the boards to the die cast metal pieces that are nicely painted black and white, This is an accurate scale model of the board played on ST:TOS, but it is smaller than the set on the show. This board stands about 13” high, and the kings are about 1.5”. Honestly, it is the perfect height for a table because you’ll frequently wind looking over the top of the set to get your bearings. Beautiful Star Trek Tri-D chess set. You won’t be disappointed!

What I always wanted!
Without giving my age I remember watching ALL the episodes of ST:TOS on NBC way before they went into syndication! At the time TV Guide had an ad for the chess set which I wanted to get but had no money to do so. I always wanted one and happened to do a search for one on Amazon and found this. While not cheap it wasn't too much and I just got it today and its PERFECT! Granted it's not as tall as the original but being on my coffee table the height is just right. The stand is metal and the boards are a nice thickness plexiglass. The pieces are also metal and have a good weight to them. Highly recommend this set!!

3-D Chess Set Is a Great Value and a Lot of Fun!
As of August 7, 2023, Amazon has the best price on the internet. Chess pieces alone are selling on other sites for over 1,400.00 USD, so this is perfect. The Noble Collection reproduction is a bit smaller than the one shown on Star Trek: The Original Series, but in my opinion that makes the game more playable as the board has a smaller footprint, fits in most settings, and doesn't take up as much table space. I liked the weight and sturdiness of the chess boards themselves. The attack boards fit snugly into their slots. Mine is very a sturdy, playable piece, not flimsy. The chess pieces, modeled after the classic Peter Ganine from the show, are also accordingly a bit smaller than the ones shown on TOS, but again, this makes them more manageable. There are videos available online that show in detail how to play 3-D chess. This set also comes with good instructions. I would advise at least a novice knowledge on how to play chess: this board isn't the standard 8 files wide (a-h) but rather uses the attack boards for a-b and g-h, and the main board for c,d,e,f. So it's a bit "fiddly" if you're used to a standard chess board. It's really a lot of fun, both to learn and to play. My advice: it's well worth the money. "Risk, risk is our business. It's what this [board] was made for. That's why we're [going to play] her." Have fun, be happy, and buy this game to play with your favorite chess fan or Trekkie/Trekker. Live Long and Prosper!

Well made. Sturdy and displayable!
The top 4x4 board had a crack, and I hope it can be replaced. The pieces stay put nicely!

Love it!
I ordered this for both traditional & non-traditional purposes. This is a great set that doesn’t disappoint, regardless of why you picked it up. The board arrived well packed in styrofoam. Battle boards were easy to affix. the set comes with a set of pieces and instructions for learning three-dimensional chess. HOWEVER… it’s also an amazing way to display Star Trek memorabilia. see my attached photos. I’d collected a set and this was the PERFECT way to put it on display.

Definitely worth the $139 this is a brand new game not a used or previously owned
I have a friend that has Franklin Mint version of the three-dimensional chest the quality on it is no better than the noble set in fact the price on the Franklin Mint is 1400 on a wooden type and 585 on the standard type the 1994 version of both sets from the Franklin Mint the plain pieces are plated silver and played a gold they are not authentic look-alike from the original series 66 to 1969 I think this is well worth the money I'm highly satisfied with it it came on time when it was supposed to I opened it up I found no defects no damage or broken pieces the only thing that I feel could have been a lot more informative is the instructional booklet I'm not familiar with the three-dimensional instructions I've never played it I've played regular chess for many years the objective is the same with this the pieces move just about the same way but there's certain things that are different as far as moving the attack boards when you can when you can't and occupy I am sure these different things as far as the gameplay goes can be learned pretty quick I give it five stars I think Nobles done a great job he has one thing I do would like to mention star trek.com used to sell the Franklin Mint version now they sell only the noble version I say thank you to the people that Noble for bringing this very authentic 3D chat set.

Kind of flimsy
If you love Trek, Then you know this is a nice display piece and an excellent gift for any fan as well. My only complaint is that it is a bit small and flimsy. The pieces are tiny and they fall off the tray when I bump into the table far too easily. It is pretty though.

On the plus side, this chess set does look a great deal like the actual stage prop used on the original Star Trek down to the chess pieces. It serves very well as decoration for one's home. On the negative side, it is not designed in a good way to play Tri-Dimensional Chess. Perhaps it suffers from being too much like the actual prop, but the squares on the three main levels do not line up in a good way to play according to either its own included ruleset or other rulesets that exist that were inspired by Franz Joseph's _Star Fleet Technical Manual_. Unfortunately, the positioning of the three main boards relative to each other are not easily adjustable. Also, the smaller "attack boards" are wobbly. They are usable, but fail to be elegantly so. Nevertheless, with a little imagination the board is usable for playing chess. An additional criticism is that while the rules included are playable, they are not well explained. I had to go online to see how other similar rulesets were written in order to be certain that I understood Nobel Collection's ruleset. It would have helped if the makers had included another piece of paper with examples of play to get the idea across effectively. A move notation system to record one's games would also have been a good addition. For this reason, I can't give this set five stars, or even four stars. If all that you want is decoration, I'll give it four and a half stars. The only thing that keeps it from five stars are the wobbly smaller boards.
