Will this work with 18x32 28,000gal pool ?

It depends of your pump. I rather to pass all the water of the pool in 3 o 4 hours. Anyway if your 18x32 are meters you will need something bigger.

Does the gph of the type of pump you use make any difference in performance?

Yes. The GPS determines how quickly you circulate the total pool contents. There are several online tools to measure how many GPH your pump needs to effectively filter your pool. just Google "how many gph should my pool filter move"

Can I buy just the top? Mine broke after only 6 months of use and it’s out of warranty.
