A higher quality product than expected, given it is a direct from China no-name brand. It has a built in battery that was working out of the box. It charges when plugged into the wall, and can work through a power cut. The included instructions were clear and relatively easy to understand. There are many functions, but I only needed to set the standard time function. I set it for two 6 hour time slots, with a 3 hour rest in between. You can set a 3rd period if you wish, which is beyond what typical mechanical timer plug can do. It beeps when pressing the buttons, but makes no noise during normal use. There is a red led light that turns on when the socket is on, so you know it is working independent of whatever is plugged into it. Good product, would recommend.

Followed the user guide and everything worked first time without any problems. The red LED indicator when the socket is live means at a glance from a distance you can confirm it's working ok. I don't use the countdown feature so I can't comment. So far no issues it is working fine, on/off to the minute it's set for.

Every 3 or 4 weeks or so our broadband router gets itself into a no-internet state, I suspect from hack attempts. If I am there, I can simply power-cycle it. If I am 1,500 miles away I can't access our network and there is nothing I can do about it. I can't use a smart socket to power-cycle the router because that depends on a functioning internet connection, and when it has clagged, it isn't. This just happened and was very inconvenient for most of a week. Cue Oridget 24hr timer to turn the router off once a day and back on after a minute. If when the router gets its knickers round its neck, it will be reset within 24hrs by the timer. It works, and has an internal rechargeable battery to retain clock time and programmes even if there's a power cut (we had one of those too). Set-up is well explained, but can be complicated if you want to use some of the more sophisticated options. Just make sure you start by setting the clock! Then know what you want to achieve, and follow the appropriate instructions. This version can only handle 24hrs, and then repeats every day, but you can have 3 distinct programmes with quite complicated sequences. There is a multi-day version, if that is what you need - just read the listing carefully and buy the right one. edit: 3 months on and this thing is both reliable and has zero issues. I'd buy another one if I needed it. Reading one of the other reviews, which is negative, I think the logic error is with the user - who demands a passive v active mode. This is impossible, since the controlled device must be on to be controlled by the timer. If it's off at it's integral switch it is disconnected as surely as if it was unplugged. No external timer can control something which is not connected.

You will need the instructions to set this, it's not simple but it's not complicated if you follow along with the very clear instructions. Yes the labels aren't intuitive but, the instructs are very clear and it's go more functions than you would probably need like intermittent on an off through out the period, I don't know why you'd want that other than for, maybe a heater, IDK, or if you want to pretend you're randomly walking in and out of a room when you're not there. It has a battery so once you've set it with a conveniently positioned plug you can put it in that ridiculously hidden away and difficult to reach plug everyone has. Very happy. But KEEP THE INSTRUCTIONS. :)
