Sturdy with nice smooth finish

smooth finish gives easy control over the whole length
The finish rod and the shield on which it sits is nice and smooth which makes long passes over the whole length easy to control.The only thing to note is that because the tool rest is so long, you really have to crank down on the set screw or else there is a tendency for the tool rest to turn on the post when you are at the end of the rest with the tool.

should have purchased tool rest and bar as one piece. Tool rest loosens from bar whn in use

Doesn't fit Mini Lathe
Does not fit a mini lathe. The picture does not show the riser at the bottom of the tool rest that makes it too tall to work on a Jet Mini Lathe. Otherwise, seems like a well made tool rest. Too bad I threw away the packaging before noticing, otherwise I would return it.

Not very useful
I use a 4" robust rest with the tool steel bar and thought I'd like to try the long Nova tool rest with a tool steel bar and so bought this tool rest and the 5" tool post. The post is nice and I use it with Nova's S-tool rest.But this straight rest isn't worth the money I paid for it. It won't stay secure to the tool post no matter what i try. It loosens and spins into the work when I try to round out a log or rough bowl blank.My advice is avoid this modular tool rest system like the plague. Stick with one-piece tool rests.

Nice tool rest
I purchased all 3 sizes. Sturdy good quality. The hardened rod on top allows the tools to slide very smoothly.
