Are these good for kids?

Small children, no. Age 8 and over, I would say yes, as long as they don’t ingest (eat) them and I would give supervision while inserting into the ear for kids 12 and under. If they put them in to far, it may be hard to get them back out. Also do not use in water. Once they get wet, they are ruined. For noise blocking only.

Would these be powerful enough for a gun shot?

Yes these will be effective for the sound of gunfire. These are NRR32. The Xtreme HEAROS are an NRR 33 and are slightly larger. In addition, we've had people tell us they use a combination of ear plugs and ear muffs to reduce the sound further.
